I was visiting my parents with DS last week and we had lunch at my aunt's house. He's 18 months and was wandering around, poking his nose into everything as usual. We moved things that were obviously dangerous/breakable (candles, vases, etc.). Then, while we were eating, DS pulled out a can of Raid from behind the couch and put it up to his mouth, pretending to drink it, like he does with anything remotely resembling a water bottle. THANK GOODNESS he didn't spray it in his mouth/face and I got it away from him. There was no type of guard over the spray button so he easily could have pressed it. I was on edge for the rest of the visit. I feel so grateful and lucky that nothing bad happened, but I felt so guilty.
Your post reminded me of one of the most embarrassing moments of my life: when I was in 6th grade I accidentally sat on a cactus at Girl Scout camp. I guess I thought it was a tree stump? I don't remember the particulars, but I do remember being mortified - even though it wouldn't be a big deal now.
