We didn't tell our families until we heard a heart beat, which was at around 8 or 9 weeks I think. We told friends at 12 weeks and then everyone else shortly thereafter.

We told our immediate family after I had the Drs confirmation. We just rang them up. I'm not into the 'cute' announcements. We told a few very close friends at about 7 weeks but didn't go public until after the first trimester.

We called our parents, but I told my 3 best girlfriends by buying them "I love my auntie" bibs and having them all unwrap them at the same time (one of them is across the country). We told them at 8 or 10 weeks, and we announced to everyone thru facebook once we hit 12 weeks.

This time around we called our parents again, but this time I told my best friends by just showing them the positive pregnancy test. I think I threw it onto the table. Haha. We told them really early on (the day after I got my BFP) and we announced via facebook much later, around 18 weeks, because I'm still hiding my pregnancy from the higher ups at work.

We waited until 12 weeks and told my parents with a stork with my due date on it.

We told our parents and siblings in person after we heard the heartbeat. They were the first to know. Everyone else of importance we told near the end of the first trimester.

For my (extended) family we did a photo. On Super Bowl Sunday we were all gathered for lunch and DH had us come together for a group shot. Before he took the shot he said, "One, two, three say, 'Joy's pregnant!!'" We got some pretty fun surprised face photos of everyone.

DH's family and my dad's side gather together less often, so they found out through email/phone calls.

To my close friends and cousins that are out of town, I sent valentines that said, "Will you be my auntie/uncle?" or "Now accepting applications for babysitters!"

We also ended up doing a fun April Fools photo strip announcement on facebook thinking it would be funny, but no one believed it was a joke!

We told our families a week after we found out (at around 6 weeks)... I made t-shirts for the grandparents, gave them to ILs at dinner... and then made my parents open them as part of my dad's 60th birthday gift in front of his siblings.

Told our closest friends over a dinner date the week after that.

Not planning on announcing/going public until May (2nd trimester)

We waited until at least 12 weeks (I think it was a little after) for both the pregnancies. With our DD we told my parents when they came for a visit, my FIL got a phone call since he doesn't visit often. With my current pregnancy we made a video of my DD wearing an "I'm a big sister" t-shirt; she was sitting in my husband's office chair and while he was videoing, I spun the chair around so you could read her shirt. My parents and other friends/family (plus my supervisors) got the video while my FIL got another phone call since he doesn't use computers.

We told our parents and my brother at 6 weeks... figured if we miscarried, we would want them to know. I had to tell a few close friends at 8 weeks b/c we go to a wine expo every year and I couldn't drink and there was no way to hide it... if that hadn't of come up, we would not have told friends that early.
I told my boss around 10 weeks, mostly b/c I was worried about my doctors appointments. Told the rest of the office at 12 weeks and went public on FB at 14 weeks.

For our parents, we took a picture where hubs held a sign that said "WE ARE" and I held a Prego sauce can. We put that in a 3 frame picture w/ and U/S and a pic of our dog with writing at the bottom that said - I'm going to be a big brother.
For FB - I posted the I Love Lucy Sketch where she tells Ricky she's pregnant.
I like that we did it in phases... helps with the anxiety of keeping such a big secret and being so excited!

@petuniasandpearls: Oh fun! A video would have been a great idea since you can see how long it takes for people to process the information. We have a bunch of pictures where everyone is just smiling until you slowly start seeing the surprised faces.
