Is it a family name? Is it a name you have loved all your life? Did it just come to you one day?

I always had the dream of having a little boy, naming him after his father and calling him Junior. But the chances of marrying a guy who had a nice name and wouldn't be weirded out by naming his son after himself were probably slim. When I suggested Robert Jr. to Rob Sr. and he loved the idea, I was thrilled! I absolutely love classic, old English names and Rob Sr. had mentioned in the past that he didn't like his name. But turns out he was just being modest. We had three other names lined up and didn't tell anyone we were considering Robert Jr. When he came out and looked like Rob Sr., we went with it! And it's a good thing-- he looks JUST like Rob Sr.

We picked a family name. We wrote down a list of our deceased grandparents/great grandparents and chose from that.

The #1 criteria for naming our daughter was that it had a strong meaning. The name we picked is very old-lady (the last time it was popular was in the 1800s!) but has a beautiful meaning: loyal and compassionate.

as soon as we found out we were pregnant, we looked through all those baby name lists. we named LO a name we don't hear too often...but inspired by a jazz musician we both like. but really, it was the only one we could agree on and one that our friends hadn't already named their kids.

Her 1st name is popular and her middle name, Rose, is a play on my deceased grandma's name Rosa.

Cameron Raymond-
Cameron ended up being from Ferris Bueller, we liked a lot of C names (the first initial of my maiden name), but when we saw him on the 3D/4D ultrasound it was what fit him best.
Raymond is my husband's great uncle, he never had kids and my husband was very special to him.

We had been in the 'name discussion' mode. We were watching a TV program and as usual, when a character's name was stated we commented on the name and both of us said we thought it was a great name. It made it to the top of our list and when we found out we were having a boy, we decided that it was definitely our favourite and went with it.

We took a planned roadtrip two days after our positive test. To pass the time in the car, I was looking up name lists on my phone in the car. It was the first name we both liked. We never picked a boy name (and it's a good thing we didn't need one).

@Andrea: we did the same thing! We were sitting there and one of us said the name. We both loved it. I looked it up later and we LOVE the description and meaning.
