I have loved pigs my whole life, and because of that I have a lot of piggy things. I had a plan that if my LO was a boy it would be pigs in primary colors, and if she was (and she is) a girl it would be pink pigs. This way I could reuse a lot of things I already had for the nursery.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and I pretty much decided mine this week. I teach preschool, so I knew I wanted to do something with the alphabet (and not tons of pink if baby is a girl). I found this collection this week and I think this is it! I think it's gender neutral enough to be used for either boy/girl. I love that there are zoo animals incorporated.

I knew I wanted pink, then we picked the furniture, and I just found a striped crib skirt I loved so went from there.

I knew I wanted a white board and batten treatment with the remaining portion of the wall navy. The rest I've just pieced together here and there with things I like, but the room definitely leans a little nautical.

We were walking around BuyBuyBaby one day and the hubby saw a cute, but not too baby-ish monkey bed set and he was sold. Everything he wanted had cute monkeys on it.

I have always loved birds (owls, peacocks, blue birds.
So, I chose a somewhat whimsical print in bright girly-ish colors with birds and owls for her bedding, and went from there.

I knew that I wanted to do a coral nursery after stalking Pinterest, so I found the perfect bedding and built off from there. I knew I didn't want a "theme" as much as patterns. So we have flowers on the bedding but that's about it it, and then wall art to tie it all together.

We love the beach and ocean, so I knew that's what I wanted the nursery to be themed after. I found some inspiration on Pinterest, and it's now a work in progress!

DH is a big baseball fan so we knew if we were having a boy we'd go with that and if we were having a girl I'd pick the theme.

Mine doesn't really have a theme per se but I knew I wanted pink and gray accents in a modern yet vintage, chic room. I found a bunch of cool prints on Etsy and some from books I have that I just color copied and framed. I'm pleased with the results.

The nursery in our rental was already painted yellow, and we are team green, so we went from there. I liked the idea of yellow, gray and white since before I realized it's all over pinterest. Then I saw the elephant sheets at PBK and was sold on a yellow/gray/white nursery with a loose elephant/travel type theme. It's not so much a theme as a color scheme, though. We also love elephants and spent part of our honeymoon at an elephant safari, so it's suits us.

Our eventual nursery will be somewhat forest themed - blue walls with those white trees you see everywhere but each wall will (in theory) represent a different season. Fall, winter, spring and summer. Gender neutral and can be filled with fun accent colors.
My backup plan is to do a zoo minus the monkeys.

We are big nerds, and I always liked the idea of having a space or robot themed nursery. So, we started out with that! But then when we found out we were having a girl, we kept finding all these flower things we liked, so the nursery morphed into a Night & Day theme. One side, where the crib is, is night/space themed, with stars, rocketships, etc. The other 'play' side has bright prints, flower decals, etc. It sounds kinda wonky, but it actually looks really cool!

Ever since visiting the Lake District in England, home of Beatrix Potter, nearly ten years ago, I've had my heart set on doing a Peter Rabbit nursery and that is exactly what we did. We've just had to do it all over again as we just moved cross country, but I still love it! We've got lots of crafty stuff there so it has lots of personal touches, and it was perfect for our Team Green LO.

When DH and I got married our "theme" was birds/vintage so we were going to do that same idea if we had a girl.. but we had a boy. So I tweaked the birds theme to owls instead

I literally just finished hanging the last of the frames in LO's room this afternoon (we moved in two weeks ago), although DH is not super impressed with my spatial awareness skills, so he'll be redoing them this weekend, sigh. Sorry for being so nosy but I'm still trying to get my space upstairs ready in my head before I tell DH what to paint. We've been moved into our house for nearly two months now but because there's no air conditioning/heating upstairs, we haven't moved up there yet. But we're going to spend the next month or so getting everything upstairs ready so that by the end of June at the latest we'll all be upstairs!

@artbee: WE MUST BE TWINS. I was born in the (zodiac) year of the pig and grew up collecting them and received a ton as gifts. I kept every single one because I always thought if I had a little girl, I don't care what animal year she was born in, her nursery is going to be pig themed! And I was lucky to have a baby girl and yup, her nursery is completely pig themed (even though she was born in the year of the dragon haha) and all the trinkets and stuffed animals are the ones I've collected over the years. I love walking in her room - it's a trip down memory lane! I'll post some pictures later and would love to see your nursery too

We wanted to use birch trees going floor to ceiling behind the crib and dressing table. We added in some smaller elements, like metal wall hangings of animals, that matched the colors in our more modern bedding set and darker furniture. Everything just evolved from there. We kept the colors gender neutral so we could reuse most of it if our next baby was/is a girl.

We don't really have a theme, per se. We were Team Green, so that immediately shut a lot of gender-specific designs down. Neither of us really like prepackaged collections or licensed designs (so no Disney or Sesame Street or Winnie the Pooh).
We were actually loosely planning on doing a Beatles' theme, including a large mural on one wall, but we ended up moving when I was 6 months pregnant and we hopefully won't be here long, so I didn't want to invest a ton of time/effort in the nursery and just have to repaint it when we move.
Anyway, our "theme" is kind of a hodgepodge of stuff in colors I liked....grey, yellow and teal. I chose them because I like the colors together and think it could have gone for a boy or girl.
On one wall I put up removable circular wall decals of varying sizes in those colors. On anther wall is a gallery of mini paintings made at my baby shower using those (and other coordinating) colors. Behind his crib is a big tapestry I sewed using squares of fabric in a similar color scheme (with varying patterns). I also used those fabric squares to make pillows for the room.

Since we're living downstairs instead of upstairs, DS has his nursery set up in his playroom. We haven't gotten to personalizing it yet, mostly because of the fact that we have plaster instead of dry wall walls - very hard to hang pictures in and patch up after you've moved them - so it isn't decorated decorated but it definitely looks like a nursery! I'll have to take some pictures sometime after I've picked up, just so I can show him later what his second 'nursery' looked like.

@NaturallyCathy: Ok, here's a few pics of our nursery. Bear in mind we're in a rental so it's pretty small and we're quite limited in what we can do. DD is also 10 months old so it's a very lived in nursery! I made the Peter Rabbit bunting (loved that project!) and my mom made the quilt, nappy stacker, the embroidery characters on the wall, the alphabet chart, and the embroidery hanging over LO's cot. I'm pretty happy with the way it's all turned out, even though our nursery in our old house was bigger, and trying to fit everything in now has given it a bit of a cramped feeling!

My favorite animal is a deer, so I always figured I would have a woodland themed nursery. However, it seemed much easier to execute when we thought we might have a boy. Since we're having a daughter, it's morphed into a more feminine forest/meadow theme. We have the Hayley nursery bedding from Pottery Barn Kids, so we're just kind of decorating around that. Basically, pastel colors, and forest friends.

I thought I wanted an alphabet theme, until we found out it was a girl and I found a purple owl bedding set. Its now vaguely owl-themed, but mostly just purples and greys!

I'm only 13 weeks, so I haven't started any nursery decorating yet, but my plan is to pick the bedding and then use similar colors. I don't want it to have a set theme; I just want it all to "go."

@artbee: i love!!! did you get some of the artwork from etsy? i think i saw those while trying to figure out what to hang on the walls. not too many pig-themed nurseries out there so this makes me so happy
and that pic of your LO with the stuffed animals just kills me!here are some pics of mine! one of our good friends is an amazing artist and her gift to us was the wall mural that she hand-drew (without any stencils!). i tried to blur out LO's name but kinda failed, haha.
