My original plan was to not have much of a theme and just stick with a color theme, but somehow it has morphed into a slight theme of birds, so we'll see how that turns out.

@Ree723: I like your low bookcase. Where did you get it from, please?

Before X was born, when I was little and dreamed of having a baby and a nursery, I dreamed of some Beatrix Potter type soft and sweet nursery for a boy. Then, we lived in a 1 bedroom apartment when X was born, so we didn't really decorate at all-- just tried to pick things that already went with our bedroom to kind of neutralize/disguise the baby stuff. But before he was born, I pictured something subtly nautical-- seashells, navy walls, pops of soft greens & tans. Husband wanted spaceships. THEN, we had X, who is a wild little ball of energy--- cheerful, wild, and opinionated. So when we moved and he got his own room, we went with the most obnoxious, wild, bright electric green. With dinosaurs. The color is HORRIBLE and BOLD. But I can't imagine my boy with some soft and sweet anything-- the electric green is just soooooo him. It's just so very X. I'm glad in that sense that we didn't set up a nursery before he was born. We got to do something that actually fits his personality.
Obviously, when we list our house in a few years, we'll repaint it some neutral tan color. The green would turn off any potential buyer I'm sure.

@NaturallyCathy: Thanks! My mom loves doing that kind of stuff and it's nice to have personal touches in LO's room!
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I think they may be from Ikea (we've had it for a while), not entirely positive though. If not Ikea, I'd have no idea but it would be from a local Aussie store. Sorry that's not overly helpful!

When I found out I was pregnant I wanted to bright colors. My boy theme was bright teal, blue and green. It seemed only natural to do an underwater theme, not to mention my husband and I love the ocean and diving. Before our son was born, we painted an underwater scene. we did it on 3 canvases since we are currently renting and didn't want to have to paint over it when we move.

The nursery was already painted chocolate brown, so we just kept that and added fun colors - red dresser, multicolored bunting, bright rug. No theme, really. Just stuff we liked.

@aprk: love the cow and chicken over the crib! So cute.
We're going with a rustic woodland theme for our son's nursery. We live in a rural area of northern Michigan, so it fits for us. For colors, we're going with grey walls with aqua and orange accents to modernize it a little. He's due in August and all we have done is paint on the walls and half of the barnwood wainscoting, so we've got to get cracking!

@yerpie110: Love it! The mural is adorable I didn't get anything from etsy.... I painted the top two pictures myself. The top left was a project for college (I was an art major) and the one on the right was specifically for baby. The bottom left is a Picasso that I bought on a Europe trip in high school, and the bottom right we got at a craft fair.
