I think Bee just told me? We had a few miscarriages at first, so it gets less exciting and more nerve wracking to get the news!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
Nothing special. Just called him and asked him I he was excited.
He said, "Yeah!!! Uh...why?"
"Because you're going to be a daddy!"
He was excited but we both were about 99% sure already that I was pregnant.

Both times I just showed him the tests. The first time I was really nervous after 2 miscarriages and wanted to show him right away. The second time I was shocked because LO was only 6 months old so I took him into our room with LO and showed him the test. Needless to say, he was kind of shocked.

I woke him up by shoving the pee stick at him, haha. I tested when I got up to get ready for work, and he was still sleeping. I think he kind of knew though, I was shaking and crying (just overwhelming emotion, not sad).

By screaming "get in here I think there is a line" "is that a line" "tell me you see a line too..." And he said yes and I said "Hurry go get a digital from the store!" haha I was getting ready to leave to go visit my BFF for the weekend, and I had to be sure!

I woke him up and made him look at the test to make sure that I wasn't crazy. It was less than ideal. I'd always planned to do something more elaborate but in the moment, I couldn't actually believe what I saw and needed his confirmation that the second line was there.

hmm, I think I just showed him the stick. and then it was less exciting / more scary when we weren't sure what would stick (2 chemicals before LO).
I do have dreams with the next one of doing something small - maybe dress LO up in a big sister shirt before he comes home from work. of course I have to get a first!!

I had already bought a "Daddy Loves Me" onesie and stuck it in a gift bag. The morning I got the BFP I threw the stick in the bag and gave him his surprise gift over breakfast. It was so hard to wait even just a few minutes!

I took a test around 8am and showed him when he got home around 5!
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
He came home from work and I was crying...he guessed right away. Unfortunately, they weren't happy tears at that time....that came a few days later!
He was there the 2nd time when I POAS.

I texted him. I was flipping out, as it was my third pregnancy in a year and he was at a stupid dr appt and wasn't answering his phone! Gah! Worst time ever to pee on a stick lol

I woke him up and told him I had something for him. In his sleepiness, he thought the Purdue onesie I had bought was socks...but when I showed it to him, he said, 'That's for a baby!' And I said, "Yes, we're having a baby!" and showed him the digital test. I cried. haha.

The first time I woke him up and shoved the test in his face.
The second time he had gone upstairs to use the other bathroom because I was taking too long (I was having a mini-panic attack on the bathroom floor). When he came back I was sitting on the bed (it was around 5am) and I just said "I'm pregnant" and showed him the stick.

I woke him up and said "Ummmmmmmmmmm I think.... I might be.... pregnant?"
lol. I'd always imagined I'd do something cuter.

He was training so it was the ONLY morning he left before I woke up! His nickname was always Big Daddy so I wrote on the mirror that's in our bathroom (across from the closet door where he goes to change after work) "You're a BIG DADDY to be!" He kept saying "seriously? Really!?!" Over and over! I got it on video

I just handed him a pee stick, nothing fancy. With a, "So there's this." The first time had lots of happy tears since it had taken so long. The second time was more filled with terror since we knew what we had gotten ourselves into.

the first time i went to get him from being outside(he was cleaning the pool) and just started crying...he knew from that lol
the second time was a shock to say the least. i just went to him with the stick and said 'i think i know why i've been so emotional' and started crying(DS was 7 months old)

Are you planning anything soon?
With DD, my husband was right next to me when I took the test. With DS, I texted him a picture of the positive test, which he couldn't see, of course, because the picture was too small. So then I just called him and told him.

We were on vacation, but I couldn't shake the feeling, so our last night there I POAS and the lines were there before I could even pull up my pants. So I called DH in from the hot tub to "help me with something" (we were traveling with friends so we had to keep it hushed) and showed him the test and after staring for a minute he asked "what does that mean?". I told him "I wouldn't have called you in if it didn't mean anything!" So we sat and laughed and cried in the bathroom for a few minutes and then pulled ourselves together to go out and fake it for the rest of the vacation. THAT was the hard part- not letting anyone catch our sneaky smiles.

I wrapped up the digital in a little Lakers onesie and gave it to him before he went to work (couldn't wait!). It took him a couple of seconds to click
We ended up using the onesie in our announcement so it worked out well!

I just told him both times!
Does someone have exciting news to share?

@Boogs: after i peed on the stick and placed it on the bathroom floor, I was too anxious to go back and look at it, so I had my DH read me the results

I had bought a little gift when we first started TTC and had been hiding it ever since. When the time came though, I wasn't sure I saw a line and was kinda speechless. Never mind we had a nice little argument the night before... So I just ended up handing him everything. After the chemical though, I joked that I was going to take the gifts back for next time. Truthfully, I don't know if I'll be able to go all out next time anyways. We'll have to see, I guess.

With P he was there so we found out together.
This time (MC) I had a "we're pregnant package" on his seat when I picked him up from work.
It said, "If I'm going to get fat, SO ARE YOU!" and was tied to some candy!

I love reading these stories. I know if I planned anything clever or elaborate, my husband would be slow to get it. I'll probably just tell him and have to repeat it many times!

@Boogs: ARE YOU PREGGO!?!?!??!?!?!?!
I printed out a sheet with a pic and left the bfp test on his dresser in a baggy waiting for him to get home.... of course he decided to stay downstairs an dplay w the furbabies for like 30 min... ;P

First time, I showed him the test and he said "what does that mean?". The second time I shoved it in his face and said, "Here we go again!".

I ran into the living room screaming, "I think there is a second line!!!!" Very original, eh?

The first time (ended in m/c) I tested while he was at work, so I met up with him at lunch and bought him a happy meal and put the test (in a ziplock!) in as his "toy". This time he was waiting for me in the next room and I saw the lines before I even finished washing my hands so I ran into the room telling him that, lol.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
The first time (m/c), it was the Friday before Father's Day and I had picked up a card earlier that week, just in case. I gave him the card when he got home from work.
This time, I was so excited that I just ran into the bedroom with the digital test at 5:30 am and shoved it in his face!

The first time I told him one evening while we were taking our dog for a walk. I had found out early that morning (7 a.m) and waited until 9:30 that night because I was so afraid to tell him. We had not been trying to get pregnant.
With #2, I bought DD a "big sister" shirt, and had her go wake up her daddy from his nap while she was wearing the shirt. I video recorded the whole thing. It was cute.

I woke him up in the middle of the night! I was traveling for work and there was a 5 hour time difference, so when I took the test at 6am it was 1am his time. I was so excited and surprised and overwhelmed that I called him right away--he kept ignoring my calls and sending me to voicemail, and then finally picked up. He was excited but also a little grumpy--he was mumbling and snapped at me when I asked him to repeat himself, haha when he was more awake later he was very excited!

@lawbee11: lol!
I took the digital test into his office (it was late at night, he was doing work) and I sat on his lap and just showed him. He was like, "I'm glad it says 'pregnant' because those lines would have made this moment pretty confusing" haha. He is the whole reason I got a digital.
The 2nd time (MC), I walked into the living room and had to sit down. He ran up to me and was like "WHAT HAPPENED?!" because my face was like i'd just seen a ghost.
I basically got a positive on a hpt *and* bright red blood all in the same moment. I was just going to pee and thought "I should test" and then saw both those things. So, bitter sweet, scaring and shocking.
This next time, I plan on just telling him. We're so avidly trying that he is pretty much asking me everyday anyway.

I was uncharacteristically late, and bought a test to rule out pregnancy - we weren't exactly trying to get pregnant. DH was stirring marinara sauce while I POAS in the bathroom. Once it blinked "pregnant", I shot out of the bathroom like a cannon, shouting, "Pregnant! It says pregnant! Holy hell, I'm #%&@*#*$ pregnant!" DH kept stirring the sauce, quietly. He then looked up and said, "Okay....okay. We're having a baby. Do you want garlic bread?"

1st time I walked into the kitchen holding the test and just said OMG I'm pregnant. 2nd time I just crawled back in bed and we were talking about our schedule for the day and I just slipped it in the converstaion. His response was "You've got to be effin kidding me!" I don't think he realised how quickly it was going to happen this time.
