Who is Jessie? I avoid it by dressing Em in her brother's clothes but then again, she's only two months old...

When I have children, I think I'm really going to try and avoid licensed characters of all sorts. Granted of course we will still watch movies and read books with them in it, but I'm not going to go over board and buy all of the stuff to go with it. My niece and nephews are obsessed with all licensed stuff, and it's actaully rather annoying!

LO is too young for princess stuff, but I pray to God she doesn't get into it.

I'm trying to do the same. So far, we've just been avoiding anything princess. In fact, she doesn't even have many typical "girl" toys since she just plays with whatever we had for our son (poor second child). But my sister got her a set of the golden books princess stories. And she's been loving them - asks for the mermaid book every night. I think it's also because the stories a longer than her other books and she tries to delay bedtime by choosing them.
But I hope that is it. I wonder if there are any versions of those stories where they're not as princess-y?

I will make sure we expose LO to all kinds of things to get into and different kinds of role models but she'll be into whatever she's into and that's fine with me. I'm not really into licensed character clothes and gear but that's not because of princesses. PS Hello Kitty doesn't count!

We aren't to that point just yet, but good to read responses. LO doesn't really have a lot of "character" things to begin with, hopefully it stays that way to an extent.

We don't have a TV and for the most part avoid licensed characters, though we have a few hand-me-downs that have dora or elmo on them. She has a couple disney storybooks but so far hasn't showed much interest in them. I do indulge her fashion choices for some things, she loves pink and sparkles but not tutus or dresses, not sure if that's princessy. We don't try to avoid it but we don't focus on her being a princess.

If my LO likes princesses I wont be bothered by it. Its ok tolike disney princesses I dont think that bars her from being a strong woman

We aren't to that point yet, I refuse to by the clothing, but movies I'm okay with when it gets there. I'm really going to work on book with strong female characters though that are not princesses!

So far LO just isn't into princess stuff. She likes to wear dresses and bows and she's a girly girl, but she only wants to watch Elmo. I wouldn't mind if she was into it though, I was always a princess lover and I like to think I turned out ok

We just don't make a big deal out of it. DD has been gifted a few princesses books, movies, and toys, but honestly her little brother is more likely to play with her Cinderella tea set than she is, and she's more likely to request The Fox and the Hound than Sleeping Beauty. We don't ban princess stuff, but we also don't encourage it, and DD hasn't shown a very strong interest in it.

I feel like some kids are just into princess stuff regardless, though, and that's ok. There's a lot of good things about princesses you can play up, like how smart and brave Belle is or how determined and positive Rapunzel is. Plus there are some amazing examples of real-life princesses (like Princess Kate) that you can direct her interest to!
