I diffuse essential oils in my main living areas and clean my bathrooms frequently with them to keep them smelling fresh.

Right now I'm diffusing cedar wood and sweet orange in the living room/kitchen -- smells clean and lovely.

@jh524: I have some doTerra and some Plant Therapy and really like both but would recommend Plant Therapy because of their cheaper prices while still maintaining high quality. If you Google essential oil blends for the diffuser a lot should come up and I know Plant Therapy sells some diffusers on their website. My diffuser is from doTerra but I don't love love love it so no advice there.

@jh524: I have a Scentsy in the living room (the 'world' one, I think it's pretty cool) and in the bathroom and change up the scents when I can't smell them anymore.
I also have eucalyptus room spray I spray every now and then, reminds me of the spa and send me to my happy place!

Too bad about allergies! But, a vintage globe would also look really cool!

Yankee candle for every day , the Lampe Berger works amazing for getting out more stubborn smells

When I had this problem, I made sure the trash was emptied every day.

Fresh air! I'm not a fan of most scented items and definitely not when I'm pregnant!

@jh524: If your DH has allergies I definitely wouldn't use febreze. It's just as bad as candles! I second the essential oils. I have a Green Air diffuser from Amazon. I really

@jh524: I also use essential oils. After tons of hours of research I went with Eden's Garden. Just make sure you look up which ones are safe during pregnancy/for kids etc if you diffuse in those situations.

@jh524: @Eko: I second Yankee candles, they smell great! I love the Autumn Leaves scent, especially for this time of year.

We take the trash out often and use Glades plug-ins.

We've been tossing our stinky trash (like leftover foods, meat bones, leftover scraps of from cutting up veggies, etc.) in the big trash can every night. We tie it up in a baggie, and out it goes. This had made a huge difference for us vs leaving it in our kitchen trash can.

Also washing dishes so there's not residual food sitting the sink overnight helps.

We have a scentsy on our half wall that we use quite a bit and a candle in every bathroom. We also use an air freshener spray each time we change the bag in the diaper genie or take out the trash.

If we're home, the rule is that a candle is lit in the bathroom if someone goes #2. It might not stink to you, but this pregnant lady's sniffer is suffering!

@ShootingStar: Surprisingly, LO doesn't touch our candles or the scentsy. We emphasized really young when things were hot and kept reinforcing. I think we got lucky in that he has zero interest in touching anything that has a flame. We also have a wood burning fireplace that he could feel the heat from, so that might have helped as well?

As for forgetting, one of us will let the other know that we've lit the candle, and between the two of us, one remembers before we leave the house to blow it out. You could hang something on your doorknob too in order to remind you to check the candles before you leave!

I have a ionizing air filter plugged in above my trashcan in the kitchen. It does a nice job of filtering all the scents in the kitchen.

We use essential oils with reed diffusers - it is a subtle enough scent that I don't generally notice it, but it takes away the dirty nappies/closed up house smell when it's not warm enough to open the windows.

ETA: our current scent is orchid, coconut, and something else - nice and light for the summer. Will be switching over to a more autumn like scent soon - something with cinnamon!

I bought the Zero Odor product from amazon or bed bath and beyond and I think it helped. Leaving windows open overnight always seems to help too. I did try the lemon-rosemary-vanilla scent, in a crock pot, and it was really lovely and lasted a long time - I moved the small crock pot around to different rooms in the house every few hours and even after I threw the lemons away in the garbage, it smelled really nice for several days every time I opened the cabinet that holds the garbage. Diffusers are a great idea, we never did use one but they sell them at our local Whole Foods along with tons of essential oils.

@jh524: Mrs Meyers Lavender room freshener! It's $5, it lasts forever, and the scent isn't chemical-y like Febreze, but totally neutralizes, like, ALL household odors: pets, bathroom smells, musty closets, cooking scents. We live in a NYC apartment with a large dog and are pretty obsessed with keeping it clean and good-smelling because it's a small space. The other best thing we do is take out the trash and recycling daily, which others have mentioned. I love candles too, but I'm always afraid I'm going to forget them (plus the nice ones are so expensive).

@jh524: we put baking soda in our box too but it doesn't work when the cats take a fresh dump! Moving it is a good idea! Glad some of these tips are helping!
