Huh-lay-nuh for the name, Hel-eh-nuh for the capital... I don't know why we pronounce the capital differently around here.

@swedishfish: that's how you pronounce the capital, although lots of people get it wrong!
Love the last option.

option 3. as in Helena Cassadine (at least that's where my mind went)

Wow, it's split pretty evenly! I always pronounced it in my head like the capital.
I think it's pretty too. I have a gut feeling this kid is a girl, and we had hardly any girl names the last go 'round. Of course, now DH is like, "Uhhhh, I'll have to see more choices." Ha

Hell-eh-na. But, my brother dated a girl from Ethiopia who had that name and pronounced it Hell-ee-na

@californiadreams: Helena was actually on my short list for lo's name and my mom said no because, 'you can't name her after a cassadine!' Haha

This is actually one of our top girl names except we can't agree on how'd we'd pronounce it. I like Hel-een-ah (nn Lena) and he likes Hel-lay-nah.

@CupQuakeWalk: Love it!
I say Hell-eh-nuh. I like Hell-ay-nuh...but afaik, no one British would pronounce it that way and I'd forever be correcting people!
