Year-o is the more correct way to say it in Greek. My father (born in Greece) would faint if he heard me order a "ji-ro", lol!

This is so weird because I had a dream last night that I was ordering gyros from a stand and trying to figure out how to say it!!! Haha

A Greek family corrected my pronounciation many moons ago...ji-ro to ye-ro

I am sure I called it Ji-ro for years and years at the state fair, but somewhere along the way I learned I was wrong.

I know ji ro is incorrect, but that's how I say it.... Can I tell u I am totally craving gyro from Greece? I never liked it here but totally loved it when I weren't to Greece in 2011!!

Ugh, Ji-Ro. It's like when people order filet mignon and pronounce it "fillet"

We say jy-ro, as in... Ji does not rhyme with hi! Which I know is 100% wrong.

HAHA my Greek ancestors must be rolling over in their graves when I say ji-ro. I've never really thought of it!

Year-o. Just like @MrsRoo: my dad is 100% Greek and would be mortified if I pronounced it Ji-Ro

@MsLipGloss: haha, I LOVE that song. Bonnie Tyler forever. Cheesy 80's goodness.
ETA: Year-o!

I say Ji-ro, but only because that is how the people who ate them that I knew pronounced them. I've actually never had on.

@mslipgloss: bahahahaha! So funny!
I say year-o, too, and someone actually laughed at me and said "duh, it's ji-ro". Obviously a long debate ensued! And I can't wait to tell the person she is out-voted, especially by people who have been to Greece and/or have Greek heritage! So silly, but so validating
