I know both a Loosha (60 + year old adult) and a Loo-See-Ah (8 year old girl) .

The two creature (one girl, one dog) had different pronunciations. One was the Loo-sha, and the other was Loo-chee-ah.

It depends on the context/language-background. Italian is loo-chee-a, Spanish loo-see-a, and the island is loosha

@nana87: Agreed. All of DH's Sicilian family use Loo-chee-ah. All the Lucias we know here in Texas are Loo-see-ah.

My niece is Loo-see-ah. My Spanish FIL and his siblings often pronounce it as Loo-thee-ah. Gorgeous name!

Crap.
We liked "loosha". My ex-coworker is named Lucia pronounced Loosha.
I really wanted this baby to have a name everyone knows how to pronounce when they look at it, since my sons name tends to confuse people. 🙄

We're going to use Lucia as DD's middle name and we're pronouncing it loo-see-uh.

When I have met people with this name, it has been pronounced either Loo-see-ah or Loo-chee-ah. I have never met a "Loosha".
This was one of my favorites when I was pregnant with LO but we struck it from the list because we couldn't figure out which way we'd want to pronounce it!

The toddler i know with that name is "loo-Chee-ah". Her family has an Italian background.

I like all the pronunciations but wouldn't be sure right off the bat how to pronounce it. If she had an obviously Italian last name i would go with loo chee uh. Spanish last name id say loo-see-uh. But I would probably ask.

I voted Loosh-a but really I'm thinking I'd go Loo-see-a. I would definitely be unsure.

I voted Loo-chee-ah, because that's how it would be in Italy, but then thought of St Lucia. I think that you could pick any of the pronounciations, but she'd always be correcting people who guessed the wrong one.

I've been to Santa Lucia Station in Venice so I immediately thought Loocheeah. I also know someone from Maui who pronounces her daughter that way.

I read it in Italian and pick option three, but now that I read it again it sounds like option 2. Either are gorgeous though!

I've known three Lucias and each one used a different pronunciation. I would hazard to guess that in CA, with so many Spanish speakers around, most people would probably start with Lu-see-ah. I think my favorite pronunciation is the Italian!

@Mrs. Champagne: I know 3 Lucias and they are all Loosha.

I have never heard of it pronounced Loosha. I know one Lu-Chee-a and one Lu-see-a. If I used the name for a DD I would do Lu-see-a with Lucy for a NN.

I had no idea the island is pronounced Loosha. I say Loo-see-ah unless I know the person is of Italian heritage.

Literally all 3 went through my mind when I saw the title of the post, before I even saw your poll options. So I think that she would get all 3 pronunciations throughout life.

I know two women with this name...one is Loosha and one is Lu-See-Ah...
I personally prefer Lu-See-Ah...

This was on our short list but I wanted it loo-she-uh and DH wanted loosha. I love this name!

Loo-CHEE-Ah -- it is the name of a very popular, highly regarded Italian restaurant here.

Funny, I know a couple Lucias and I have only ever heard it pronounced Loo chee ah. I never would have thought of a different pronunciation.
