Growing up, I used a mercury thermometer under my arm or under my tongue.
These days, we use a digital ear thermometer... I usually check both ears twice, just to be sure.
How do you take your LO's temperature?

When LO was first born and we were paranoid parents, we took his temperature under the armpit aaaalll the time (unnecessarily!) like the nurses showed us but looking back that probably wasn't the best way.
We've actually never taken his temperature since and he is 11 months. He's never had a fever (or at least felt warm) or been sick except for a bad case of the stomach flu.

Rectally for now.
Our children's hospital uses temporal artery thermometers, and they are amazing! Just a quick swipe over the forehead and instant temperature! If I could find a consumer grade one that is affordable and accurate, I'd be all over it!

We use a forehead/temple swipe type one, but I am not 100% sure it's totally accurate. I think it's pretty accurate though, and we have a digital ear one for backup as well if she's feeling super hot.

I do both ears. If it seems like we will need to call the doc, I break out the rectal thermometer.

For those who use a digital ear thermometer, any recommendations? We have a forehead one and I doubt it's accuracy! Time for a new one.

Rectally, to me it is the most accurate. Anything I would have to add one degree to, I don't trust.

Same as @yoursilverlining: we also keep an ear thermometer for backup just incase the forehead swipe one doesn't work. Our pedi uses the forehead one too.

I put my lips against their foreheads.

I use a forehead one. If I'm really worried about accuracy, I'll do it rectally.

Ear thermometer. DH got a rectal at the pediatrician's suggestion bit I figure if the ear is high I'd just take him in anyways.

Both digital ear and temporal. We used to have a rectal one for when my boys were infants. I am interested in how infrared non-contact thermometers are. They use it at my oldest son's school every morning.

We do the temporal and confirm with a rectal thermometer if we're really worried.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I might need to get that one. It's very affordable! I thought they were all $100+
