We thankfully have ample storage in the basement and kept most of DS' toys since we knew were having a second... but honestly, we don't use a lot of baby toys with DS2!
And just in general, DS1's toys as he gets older just keep coming and DH and I would like to simplify. We are looking into donating to a local children's hospital and/or woman's shelter. (Most of our local friends have children older than us).
How do you keep the mass that is toys at bay in your household?

We bought a bigger house.
I kid. I mean, we did, but not for that reason. I sometimes rotate toys, though not lately, and often donate.

We rarely buy toys and I always get rid of stuff when new things come in.

We have two toy storage racks in the living room and DD has been trained that she can only have one tub at a time out. All the big toys are in the (unfinished) basement playroom but we prefer to hang out in the living room during the winter. It's cold downstairs.

Sounds like kind of a good problem to have! We don't have this problem. We do mostly drawing and building toys. I have baskets for storage.

We donate every couple months or send them over to my mil! Lol. I also rotate out their toys too. They usually only get tpys for Christmas snd.birthdays too

We have two small baskets in the living room and fill them with toys. Everything that doesn't fit in those baskets goes into the upstairs closet. Every couple weeks or so, we rotate. So the toys don't take over, and it's like she gets brand new stuff every few weeks.

We bought a big shelf to hold everything and I've been putting away items for LO2. I've also been giving away/lending items to friends.

We do periodic purges and donate. We especially do that around birthdays and holidays.

I get rid of toys as soon as they become too babyish. We barely buy anything, the main problem is gifts from family members!

I did a purge over the holidays and plan to do another one after his birthday. We've been boxing them up and storing in my MIL's attic since we may have a second. (We live in an apartment so no attic.)
We have an L-shaped living room, and the L is the play nook. I know it's time to purge when the toys start to creep around the corner and invade the rest of the living room!

We recently did a purge, I asked my son to pick out some toys that he didn't want any longer and we brought them to my mom's house. She has various friends that are becoming grandmothers, new parents, etc, so she doles them out.

We have so many toys, and I'm not good at controlling it. Easier to put away the baby gear and toys but more difficult to put away the toddler toys. My boys are into different things too. This past Christmas I made sure to donate and return as many toys as possible. We just have too many.

I rotate toys out, but if he outgrows something before we get to it, I give it away to friends. Going to donate/give away a ton of toys when DD outgrows these toys because OMG! Thankfully, DS doesn't mind us stowing away 90% of his gifts (that or he doesn't know/fully aware yet - ha!). So those go immediately into the attic.

My friend is having a baby in April, so I cannot wait to lend her all the baby toys. So I always have someone to hand off toys to! So far I don't buy toys I don't have room for and I rotate.

Getting more storage is something we're trying to work on (our condo is <900 sqf).
Recently I made a zippered "bean bag" that DS's stuffed animals are living in.
