How do you answer this question? I'm 20 weeks. Does that mean I'm 5 months? How do I answer this?? (questions that come to you while you're sitting in an airport!)

It depends on who is asking me. If I know the person likely won't know that a pregnancy is 40 weeks I try my best to tell them months. I'll be 30 weeks on Thursday so I'd just say about 7 months when asked

Same here. If it's another mom, I'll sometimes say weeks but more often I just say "I'm due in May."

I usually told people in months when I was pregnant with LO. So 20 weeks, I'd say I was halfway there or 5 months.

Depends on the person- if it's someone I assume knows how many weeks a pregnancy is I'll say the week, or just round to the month. For you I'd say 5 months until march and then start saying 6 months. It's not exact but who's counting!

I usually say weeks, then sort of translate to months if the person who asked looks confused. At this point, I'm 37 weeks and 5 days, so if someone asks, I say I have two weeks left until my due date!

@LindsayInNY: I can't tell you how many blank stares that I get when I answer that question in weeks!! It kind of makes me laugh!! So now I just answer in months.

I always get so confused. I try to look it up periodically. I'm 14 weeks now, which is apparently 4 months. (When did that happen?!)

If it's another mom I say weeks. If not I say months and just round it out.

I'm gigantic already so if I stranger asks, I round up, haha.
I'm only 13 weeks and someone asked and I said 4 months! Ummm....
nectarine / 2834 posts
@Anagram: ha! I did the same. I'm 18 weeks but someone asked me and I said just about half way! Which is kinda the truth...but I am def big enough to pass for further along!

@MrsBrewer: I was confused because if I keep at it with months, eventually I'll be answering "10 months" lol. But if I round down then I just look big.

16 weeks, so I'm saying four months to non-mom people who ask
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
I round it out to a month for people (ie 27 weeks=7 months for me right now). non pregnant people are like, weeks, wut?

I say months unless talking to another mom or in the doctor's office. I'm 34 weeks so I say I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant.

11 weeks/almost 3 months for people who are confused.

@Tidybee: I'm totally too embarassed to say 13 weeks, since I am pretty much the same size I was at 20 weeks with LO #1.

This handy chart on Pintrest may not be perfectly accurate but it's what I've been using.

4w4d.... What I get confused is when does everyone consider the end of the first trimester? Technically (40 weeks divided by 3 is 13.3 weeks). Or do people just round down to 13 weeks or down further to 12 weeks? I want to know when I can stop taking my progesterone shots! My RE said I can stop at the end of my first trimester. Ok...
Also, I want to know when I can announce it to everyone IRL!
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@autumnlove: Noooooooo! Don't tell me I have to wait longer!
Haha
nectarine / 2784 posts
@bluestriped bee: 14 but ask your RE for a specific week/day! Even among drs some measure it differently.

@youboots: this is what I've been using. 23 weeks and I say 6 months when people ask. Just easier that way!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
I say "6w" - a lovely mix of food aversions, nausea and exhaustion!
After I hit 20 weeks I usually count in months
bananas / 9229 posts
@bluestriped bee: I think I saw anywhere from 12-14 weeks? Your NT scan will be around then so I think a lot of people wait for that and then announce?

20 weeks is halfway through 40 weeks but if you are 5 months now then you would be 10 months at birth and 9 months at 36 weeks. Since most people think in terms of 9 months I would say 4.5 months and then at 22 I would say 5 months. It makes more sense with EDD. Not that it really matters but if someone told me they were 5 months pregnant I would think baby baby was due June 9th. You can also go by the day of starting the month though it will vary since some months are longer

@MrsMccarthy: Oh, I like that. Wish they made an app with all that info.

@bluestriped bee: I know they should. Maybe there is one out there.

20 weeks this week! Wow.. it sounds so far along when you think of it as 5 months
apricot / 263 posts
I've wondered the same thing, @LindsayInNY! I've been using weeks lol and since I'm 20w5d, I've just been saying halfway when people look confused by weeks!

I worked in customer service, so people asked me this CONSTANTLY. Like I would answer this question at least 10 times a day. I would always round up to the closest month if they seemed like they might not know about weeks of pregnancy. 20 would be 5 months. If I ever said the real number they would inevitably say how big I was. Not something I wanted to hear all the time.
