Just wondering when we should start seriously looking in to this...I've narrowed it down to about 4 photogs already, but I don't know how far in advance they generally book up? Is it like wedding photographers...?

I'm due in three months and just booked ours last week. One thing with newborn pics is, at least with my photog, it's not like a wedding where they book you on a fixed date many months out. Mine will now put me on her calendar for late June/early July, and then a month before my due date check in and book two or three dates. We will end up using the one that works best based on when baby arrives. I think since there's more flexibility on when a newborn shoot can be (i.e. isn't fixed on being on a weekend like most weddings) it doesn't need to be booked that far in advance.

I am 34 weeks now, and I just booked my maternity pics, and informed her I will want newborn pics. For my newborn pics, I just call her within a day or so of baby being born, and then we set up our time then, she aims to do the newborn shoot within 10 days of the birth. I know she leaves time in her schedule scattered about for doing newborn pics.

We contacted her before lo was born and she told us to call when lo was born and we'd shoot for about 10 days old. We did it during the week so there wasn't an issue with her being too busy.

We were gifted with a newborn baby photo shoot but we were so overwhelmed with out baby that we couldn't get to the studio until LO was 3.5 months old.

I started looking into photographers about a month before I was due. We ended up just doing pictures at home with our camera.
