Maybe I have a weak back or my Lillebaby doesn't provide great support, but Olive is already getting pretty heavy! After carrying her for an hour and a half, my back started hurting a little bit, and she's only 12 pounds.
How long can you wear your baby? In what position and what carrier?

I've carried my LO for about 45 mins in my Ergo, wearing wedges and I was good. LO's about 21 pounds.
I wear the waist band high and noticed that my back doesn't hurt as much when I do.

Experienced babywearers will probably say that you're not using the carrier correctly if you are experiencing pain. Is there a store or group you can visit to get your carrier position checked out?

I can't carry my lo at all now, any little weight on my shoulder will give me a migraine. When I did carry her I'd only last a half hour, but my body is wimpier than most because of the migraines.

It depends on the carrier. I think carriers that allow you to wear your baby on your back are much better than those that have the baby hanging in front of you

what kind of carrier do you have, mrs. bee? i heard that happens with the bjorn. i got the beco gemini - and haven't tested it yet but i heard it's a lot better for the back.

@tequiero21: i have a lillebaby, but i do have a weak back too. i also have an ergo but i lent it to a friend. i'm actually in the market for a new carrier, but i just can't decide! i really want the boba 3g, but it doesn't allow facing out. olive loves to be held in the facing out position, so i think she would love facing out...

A lot of times I switch between the carrier and just holding her. The ergo though I haven't really had much pain but with it being cold we haven't been out for long bouts where I'd have it tested out now that she's heavier.

haha my arms are so sore from carrying my LO! He is 18 lbs but I only hold him 15 minutes max at a time!

We wear constantly at 21 lbs in ergo. I wrote an article recently about inward vs. outward facing as it is a very interesting discussion. I'll have to share!

DS is 23 pounds and I carry him facing me in our Boba (2g I think) and I'm fine. I haven't carried him long enough to get back pain. Most of the time I'm not carrying him for more than 2-3 hours at a time for our longer walks and mall trips. I love the boba. I wear the belt low on my hips and as tight as I can get it so the weight is off my back.

Infantino, 13lb baby, an hour or more before it hurts.
I think she weighs more now because it hurt quickly in the grocery store the other day!LOL

I took my then-4-month-old out on a babywearing excursion and lasted about 3 hours before my back started hurting. That was 3 hrs straight save maybe one 10 minute break when I ate quickly, took her out of my carrier and put her in my lap. This was with the Beco Gemini, front-facing in. Oh and when it did start to hurt, I loosened the straps a bit and felt better. I do love both the Gemini and the Ergo. If I were to try another one in the future (probably, because I'm a babywearing addict), it would be the Boba for the footrests.

I have the ergo and have worn LO for 2-3 hours at a time with no problems with pain. He was around 6-7 months at the time and was in the front position.

I used the ergo at Disney world and he was 20lbs and my back didn't hurt. I wore him on the front for 3-4 hours standing on lines and just walking the park.
