DH and I met at work and then dated for 8 mo before we got engaged. I always feel like that was on the quicker side so I'm curious - how long did you date your SO before getting engaged?

6 months but we were ready much sooner!

Two years and two months.
We got married the day after our 2.5 year "anniversary" -
Just under 3 years, but I think we would have been ready after 1 year! But then we would have only been 19

We were good friends for 4yrs before we starting dating and then it was another 4yrs until we got engaged.
ETA: I find this thread really interesting... I always thought our 4yrs was a pretty short time. But compared to alot of ladies here that isnt the case. Most of my friends got engaged after at least 5yrs and a lot of close friends have gotten engaged recently after about 8+ yrs. I wonder it is some kind of culture/expectation differences between the UK and elsewhere... Or maybe just the people I know!

A little over a year and a half. We would have gotten engaged much, much sooner (like 5 months in), but I was still in school.

Over 4 years. And we lived together most of that time. Needless to say, I was getting impatient : )

We didn't have a formal engagement...we were married a year after we met. Sometime during that year we just decided we'll get married at some point in the near future, lol.

6 years. Most people think thats crazy long but it was perfect for us. We grew so much together and had the chance to start our lives long before we were married. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing.

5 years! Got engaged on our 5 year anniversary.

Dated 1 month before getting engaged. (We were friends for 2 years before dating)

We dated briefly in high school then reconnected 10+ years later. We dated for 1.5 years before getting engaged.

It was about 7 years I think.... too long in my opinion, but it seems that I'm just one of those people who has to wait a bit longer for what they want.
I was ready after 3, so it got pretty dramatic sometimes. Didn't help that quite literally ALL my friends got married during those 7 years.

Right at a year! Started dating early Dec 2009, engaged Xmas 2010

5.5 years. We were 18/19 when we started dating so I think of it more as like 2.5 "grown-up" years (after I graduated).

@littlebittyhouse: Sanibel, FL on the beach. My friend from high school is a photographer there and without my knowledge, he booked a photo shoot with her... I thought we were just getting some nice pics, but he proposed during!

About 2 years!

4 years. But we met when I was a senior in HS and he was a freshman in college. We waited until my Jr. year in college to get engaged. We got married a year and a half later, 2 months after I graduated. It was perfect for us. And a year and a half after that, we found out we were pregnant!
