Right now I'm building our registry and I have AN XS Ktan on there for me and a Tula for DH.
Is that enough? I feel like the soft carrier is better for newborn to infant, and baby will be closer to me. And as baby gets bigger, DH will carry him or her and he's a bigger guy with broad shoulders.
Would I need another sized Ktan for hubby if he wanted to baby wear early on?

Ktan yes he will need another size.
I never really needed more than 1 at a time - I had a wrap, then an Ergo, and now a Tula.

I had 2 and never wore either one. I had a moby wrap from a friend that never used it and received a ktan as a gift. I was really excited about both but still never used them.
So I think 2 is probably to start off and if you really use them you could buy more then.

You could just get the infant insert for the Tula and he'd be able to use that carrier right away!

We have an Ergo and a wrap. Both of us wore her. I'm thinking about getting a second carrier for our big girl because I don't like wrapping as much as I thought.

I have 3. A ktan, ring sling and beco. I love them all for different reasons. DH doesn't baby wear. If he did, he could use the beco early on even though it's not my fave for infants. I probBly would have him use the ring sling or swap my ktan for a moby.

We had 2, a k'tan and an ergo. We had the infant insert for the ergo, so DH was able to carry her pretty early on in that. I assume a Tula has an insert thing too? I probably wouldn't bother with another sized k'tan.
(I will be honest, I hated my k'tan. At the beginning it felt too tight and by the end it was too loose. I sold mine and will be getting one that is more adjustable next time.)

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm going to try on the Ktan before buying and I'll probably get mine second hand. I'be registered for the Tula and will probably get a newborn insert as some of you have recommended!!

@stiletto_mom: I know this isn't your original question, but I just wanted to let you know - the XS Katan is VERY small. I wear an XS in tops / size 0 in dresses (when not pregnant) but especially in the first 2 months PP I couldn't fit the XS Katan and the baby. I ended up never getting to use it which made me so sad! I had washed it in prep to use it so I couldn't return for a bigger size.
I think my biggest problem was PP boobs (I was like a 34F) and belly. If you're crazy tiny with a smaller chest you might be ok.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you because esp if you get it 2nd hand you prob won't be able to return.

@stiletto_mom: I never got the hang of a Ktan or moby. For newborns I love my ring sling or woven wrap. I second getting the insert for the Tula.

@SweetiePie: I think I'm in between? I wear dress size 4 but the measurements on the Ktan site is just under the S size. And Ktan says to size down if in between.
But thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely have to try it on before purchase.

We have 2, Moby and Ergo. Next time around I think I'm going to switch the Moby for a Ring Sling though

I kinda don't trust me to do anything right besides an SSC, but I'd really like something else for when baby girl is really really little. I have a k'tan and a hot sling. Not using an infant insert for my Ergo.

In the early days I had a mei tai and an SSC, and DH had his own SSC. I liked the mei tai better, but the SSC was easier to get on at first, especially when going from the car with a winter baby.

Personally, I liked having DH get his own carrier...I hated having to adjust my Ergo after he wore it. For awhile he used the Bjorn and I used the Ergo, but once DD1 outgrew the Bjorn, he got his own ergo. He never used any of the wrap style carriers, so we were ok with just one of those.
Also just due to the sweat ick factor in summer months, I think it's nice if you can swing a separate carrier for a nanny if you'll have one. There was something about putting on a carrier that was damp from someone else when we did a kid handoff that really grossed me out.

@stiletto_mom: I had the same exact sizing issue that @SweetiePie: did, plus having a bigger baby exacerbated the problem. I ended up having to buy a small Ktan my 1 wk PP
We got by with a Ktan for me in the early days, and now DH uses an Ergo and I use the Beco (both SSCs). I like having the different carriers so we don't have to adjust the settings. DH & I have very different body types. LO is a BIG baby though, so he "graduated" to the SSCs pretty early on.

I'll be the odd ball out here.... LO 1 and LO 2 only like the Bjorn when they could face out... Then we switched to one of those hiking style backpacks because they both like being able to see everything. LO 2 sorta liked the Ergo when he was tiny tiny, I got maybe 2 weeks of use out of it. Then we switched to the Bjorn, then waited till he was big enough to face out. Now it's just the backpack (7.5 months) because he's getting too heavy to wear in the Bjorn for me (not DH), and we use it daily!!!

We have Lillebaby Airflow that we've used since 2 weeks. In retrospect, I would have gotten a ringsling to use for quick up/downs when he was little.

just putting it out that we have and love a beco gemini. it so easily adjustable between DH and I, not at all like the tulas and ergos when it comes to sharing with someone of a different size. And you don't need an insert, it can be used from birth. we are getting good use again out of it with our second baby.
