I had a final interview today for a position I really want. I was a little thrown when one of the people interviewing me (head honcho) commented about how I haven't stayed anywhere too long--this was a job with the city, he has been there for over 20 years and 2 other people in the room had been there for at least 15 years.

I'm 35 and I've had 4 jobs since 2001:

1: 2.5 years
2: 4 months (laid off)
3: 2 years
4: 6.5 years

I have lots of friends who have moved around and only a couple that have been at the same job since graduating from college. I do know that the culture of civil servant positions seems to be that people stay for a long time. I would love my next job to be one I can stay at for many years.
