We have a glass top Ikea table and I've had a fake "wood" table before, but in the future would like to get a real wood dining set. My husband and I have slightly different ideas about what a good deal on real wood furniture is. SO...I'm just curious.
How much did you pay (ball park) for yours? We don't have family to give us furniture like this, so no "we got it from our parents for free" votes, please. 
I should add, I'm looking for a table big enough to seat 6.

We got our wood dining table from R&F during a sale, plus we ordered quite a few other big items w/ them so we got a nice discount. Spent $380 on the table, and then $500 on a set of 6 upholstered dining chairs.

We paid about $150 for our current table on craigslist, but when we buy our "forever" table someday it will most likely be in the $1500-2000 range.

I found the deal of a century on CL today. Two separate listings---beautiful upholstered dining chairs (a good brand name), being sold cheap in a moving sale. And a real hardwood table with leaves to extend it, in oval---basically exactly what I've been looking for--for a TOTAL of $550.
DH thinks this is "expensive" and doesn't see what an amazing deal this is.
FWIW....we can afford something nicer, but DH is very, very into spending as little money as possible on things which is fine by me--but he needs to understand that THIS is as little money as possible for real wood furniture.

Our chairs are still hand me downs so I won't vote, but they are solid wood. We'll probably get four better ones once the kids are out of boosters probably. I think my max will be about $150/chair.
Our awesome table from Pottery Barn was about $700 after my generous employee discount. It was a stretch when I bought it, but we'll have it forever. It seats 6 as is, but has two leaves, which would get is to 10 comfortably. I would have a hard time paying over $1000 for any single item I think though.

I imagine ours will be closer to $3K when we eventually buy one. For now we're making due with a cheapy hand-me-down.
It's a 'thing' in DH's family to buy Amish-made wood table + chairs. There are some *beautiful* sets, so it's not taking much to persuade me. Just have to save up the money first!! Also, I'll be looking for one that's 10' long, so it will be a hefty piece of wood!!

About 850 for the table and 6 chair set from Overstock. They have a lot of rubberwood furniture. I have 4 piece (tv stand, coffee table, dining table and buffet) from them now and love them!

We had a family friend who is a carpenter make our set (wood table and six chairs) at cost, and we still paid about $460, just to give him some perspective on the costs of nice wood alone.

I wanted something with a specific look so we ended up spending about $1k on the table and more than that on the chairs (probably too much, haha) at C&B. At the local chain furniture store we could have gotten a cookie cutter wood dining set for about $1k.

For my first set, I got a table that seats 6 for $100 at an antique store (it had leaves that fold down) and I had Ikea chairs that were $15 each
For my "forever" set, I have a similar table but larger (Seats 8 if you squoosh) that my parents got at an estate sale for $3-400.

I have a feeling they weren't as expensive when dad started buying the kits in the '80s...but even still...$500 would be a major deal compared to that!

We got a decent dining set on closeout at macys. Not a forever set, but nice enough for the formal dining room.
We didnt splurge on any furniture (pretty much everything was from Macys and on sale) because we plan to replace and upgrade everyone in 5-7 years or so when the boys are older.

Ours was roughly $3,500. It was custom made from Canadel. You can select everything about your table and chairs - size of top, style of top/legs, style of chair, colors of top and bottom, etc. The table wasn't the expensive part, it was the 6 chairs. I think the chairs were all $400 or so a piece.

I"m having a hard time remembering. The numbers $800 and $1200 are floating around in my head... not sure which it was, but somewhere in that range. It's a long table (seats 6 without the center leaf, 8-10 with it). Also has 4 wood chairs with leather padded seats and 1 long bench with leather padded bench.

We paid significantly over $2k for our formal dining room set, but it's a large table, eight chairs and a china cabinet.
We're getting DH's parents' old solid wood pedestal table refinished soon and it's $675 just to refinish the table. We will probably pay another $400-$600 for chairs.
All that to say, I think what you found sounds like a great deal!

We got a table from Scandinavian Designs that seats 6, but with extendable leaves to seat 10. Because we wanted to be able to seat 10 guests at once, the biggest splurge was buying TEN dining chairs. The matching chairs were much too expensive, so we ended up with upholstered ones that coordinated with the table at half the price (also from SD). We bought our set during a sale (15% or 20% off, I think), so our total ended up being about $2300 including tax. Considering the quality and 10 chairs, I think it was a good deal. It also came with free delivery and set-up, so that was nice. I think our next step is to get a custom glass top for the table so I don't have to worry about placemats.

We actually built ours and for materials alone it cost about $500. It's solid oak and pine. Just to give you a ball park idea with no labor or markup!

Ours is small, so not terribly expensive. I voted what it cost the original owner, because we got it off craigslist but I think what she paid ($500) was reasonable for it new. We actually only paid her $150 for it plus a daybed, but she was moving and HAD to sell it, and no one else wanted it, so she gave us a great price. It's a bar height set, if that matters.

Ours was $1800, but I've seen some gorgeous last-forever hand-it-down-to-your-children tables for $4000-$5000.

Our table is an antique and a hand-me-down. But we bought a bench (also antique) for 150 and chairs so far for 40 (ten apiece, we have unmatching ones I've gotten from antique shops, etc....the effect is, IMO, pretty and unique). So I'd say around 500 would get us what we have. Sounds like a good deal!

Wow! This makes me really appreciate the set we were handed down, even if it wasn't totally my style. We were handed down a set similar to this, but we paid over $300 just for the delivery. At that time I thought the delivery was more than I'd pay for a whole set, but now I realize how expensive they are.

We found an amazing dining set on Craigslist for $300- the woman was downsizing her apartment and didn't have room for the formal table and chairs (in perfect condition) so we got a killer deal.
She provided us with the original receipt which totaled around $850 for the table, 4 chairs, and the extra leaf. It can easily fit at least 2 more chairs when we're ready to buy them (the same style is still in production).
