Our pet insurance is $720 a year for two dogs which covers vaccines/yearly dental/bloodwork/etc. We spend OOP around $1-200 depending on any infections/meds they have (one of our pups had a UTI this year).

This doesn't include food/treats/etc.

We're likely going to get a private pet insurance plan and go to a local clinic this next year.

A lot. I've never done the math because it would make me sad lol. But $182 doesn't sound too bad. For our dog I'd say we spend probably $250/year at the vet (just one visit with shots and usually one other visit for some random issue) and probably $350-400/year on food. For one cat, we rarely take her to the vet because she has been very healthy and is an indoor cat so she doesn't require a lot of shots. Maybe $75-100/year. The other cat has medical problems so now (in maintenance mode) he costs us probably $300/year at the vet + $500ish/year in meds. And then the cats decided that they will only eat canned food (sigh) so thats like another $400ish/year in food for both of them.

Man that was depressing. Pets are expensive.

@bluestriped bee: we had it the first year they were pups and that was worth it. went off of it for a few years and then went back on it when they were both in dire need of dental care. (This is banfield through petsmart). We heard through a friend of a local clinic that will be a bit cheaper for the same services including dental, so we decided to switch!

some years, we don't even go. my cats are indoor kitties though & don't need vaccines every year. but then we go through phases where we're there all. the. time. like the last two wks i was there more than a half dozen times oh well, i adore my vet (when my last kitty was put down, she came to our home to do it even though she doesn't do house calls & then took him to be cremated after, she's an angel!) and we get crazy discounts. i'm sure the kittens will be less $$ next year since they have been going to get all their vaccines and neuter/spay and wilson needed surgery on his toes (and then needed another surgery to repair them again).

We just had my dog's yearly appointment and it was about $350 for shots, well visit, stool sample run, heartworm and flea/tick meds. Typically he's pretty healthy so we just go once per year. This year we did get a dental cleaning done and it was another $375.

Ummm a lot. They're on prescription dry food. Then there's the wet food and cat litter. It's $45/visit at the vet. I have two cats. So $90 once a year just for annuals. This year, my orange one needs his teeth removed ($350). I also get them groomed ($120/3 months)...honestly probably inching towards the $1,000 mark by the time you factor in food.

my cat is 13 years old and we'll need to take her in for a dental cleaning (lots and lots of tartar!). they need to put her to sleep so it's a couple hundred dollars.

i have spent a lot in the past for my other cat (her sister) that had cancer... but it was worth it because she lived another 4 1/2 years and she was the sweetest cat ever.

Waaay too much! My dog is approaching 9 years old. This year it's been her bladder stones; between 1 surgery, rounds of meds, xrays and labs, I blocked out how much we spent

She had cancer a few years back and that was a fortune too We were so thankful that it was a visible tumor and it was removed w/ just surgery and nothing else was needed!

I just checked our budget and we've spent 300 this year

In a normal year, I'd usually spend a couple hundred per dog on shots. This year hasn't been normal though. My 13 year old dog is in the early stages of kidney failure, which we found out at the end of last year. He's had to go in for periodic blood work, plus we have to buy him special prescription dog food and supplements at the vet.

Both of my dogs are young, less than 2 years old, and they've had a lot of the beginning puppy stuff. All of the rounds of shots, Neuter for my male, and spay for my female. Just a ton of other stuff too. I would say that we are around $1500/year right now.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH. We have a 12 year old dog that has had a bunch of issues over the last few years, and we are always having to spend money at the vet. It is always an issue that can be "easily" fixed, nothing like cancer, so we always end up forking over the money. I won't even go into how much we have spent, but it is way more than a few hundred dollars.
We also have two other dogs and two cats, so we expect to pay a fair amount at the vet.
