Totally depends. $20-$100.

It depends on how close I am to the parents. Usually $25, but I recently threw J a first birthday party and I was blown away by the generosity of my friends. Several of them gave either a giftcard or gift worth $100.

I wouldn't expect anything more than $20... so I think $20-30 is a good gift.

In your case I would spend $20. But I also tend to spend even less because I'm a diyer. I have two parties this weekend, I made them each the same gift. A bag/crayon holder personalized with things they like and their name, a coloring book with pictures of themselves, and water colors. Cost me less then $5 each, but it took a lot of time.

In your case probably 20-30. If it was my niece or nephew, or honorary niece/nephew probably significantly more.

$20-30, but sometimes less. I don't think hitting a certain dollar amount matters so much. A nice children's book could be $15-20, but a cool play doh set less than $10.
