I'm curious the average spent on gifts for your LO's birthdays. If you don't throw a party for them does the amount change? We don't have parties at this age for our LO's, so we tend to spend a bit more towards gifts. So far I've spent $70 on LO for her 4th birthday coming up, and we will probably end up spending another $30-$50 more. BUT no party and no big plans for the day either. So we take that into account...

For me, it depends. This year I asked DD what she wants and she said a princess cup, LOL. So I found her a cup and am getting her a dress up pajama gown and a book. So her gift is < $40 but she's having a party at a kid venue with friends. No big gift, otherwise. In fact, I don't there's a real big gift she wants/needs since she already has a bike, scooter, etc.
Last year we did a special outing and a small party with family. The year before she had a bigger gym party with friends. Her gifts from DH/me have always been in the $30-$50 range.

@mauxie: haha a cup, I wish! I guess I feel obligated since we don't do much else to spend a little more...maybe it's a mom guilt thing? We don't buy toys throughout the year though so I feel I can justify it...

For us its really more about what she/we want...and get inspired by.
We did a bigger party for her first birthday but now its just a small family gathering. Last year - I think I got her her dress up armoir and some disney princess dresses...$125 in total I think.
For her first birthday I did not get her much...she was getting so spoiled by family!
This year Disney on Ice is coming a few weeks after the big day...so we are taking her to that and getting her a new dress to wear (letting her pick it out).
I dont have a set amount...just go with what is in my mind...plus I shop throughout the year so it spreads out!

If I use last year as an example, we bought one big thing, combined it as Christmas and Birthday, from Santa, us and grandparents. We spent $400, my parents gave us half and we bought nothing else. That would break down to $200 that we spent for birthday, Christmas and the gift from Santa. Then we had an offsite party, split with a friend, I think we overspent, but I didn't have the time to nickle and dime it, our share was $400.
So no, I don't have a total amount that I allocate to the party and gift, they're independent in my mind. The good news is we won't be having any more parties, my son doesn't like attending or hosting.
This year, no idea, but I am already prepping my son that he's not getting all 40 items he's put on his wishlist.

I don't have a set amount in my mind. I didn't want to over-do it with gifts so it was more about quantity - I got him 3 gifts - a little people barn, a mega blocks jeep and a lego train. That's probably about $60? But then DH said that wasn't enough and got him a soccer ball and a little people bus! So all in, probably closer to $75-80.

For DS's 1st bday we got him a book and the Little People Barn so < $50, but my 13 yr old Step Daughter we typically spend around $100, she also has more expensive taste.
As long as I can get away with it I think we'll spend as little as possible but I will try and keep it under $100 regardless. -
I generally aim to spend about $200 on gifts, give or take. We've only had 2 birthdays so far, first one was a huge party that was part housewarming, second was a small family party. So the costs varied widely.

DW put a limit on me for DS's first birthday coming up this fall.
I am allowed to purchase a PBK Anywhere chair and that is it. LOL.ETA: No party so no expenses there.

About $100 regardless of what we spend on a party. Want/need/wear/read usually puts us in a lower range, so sometimes I spend more on 1 category like 3 pairs of HA jams for wear.

Usually $125.
This year she needed a bike, her trike is way too small and she can't keep up with the bigger girls. She wanted a princess dress, and my Husband bought her a My Little Pony Book and DVD. Pretty close to $125 and we still have her party in two weeks. -
$200 ish, but we follow want/need/wear/read so the need and wear is stuff I would have bought anyway. For instance, my daughter just turned three and got a dollhouse (want), new lunch box (need), rain gear for outdoor preschool (wear) and two books (read). I spent $170, but without need and wear it would have been like $60.

This year we are having a large party (we have 32 people coming to our house next week) partly because some of our friends haven't met our newborn yet. I'm keeping his gifts to a total of $30-40. Plus a trip to the zoo. He is turning 3.

We decided to try keep it under $200 each kid. Doesn't mean we have to spend that much (we spent less than half that on the last two birthdays) but have budgeted that amount. We usually buy them several presents but don't mind spending it all on one thing, like a bike.

About $200-300 but I usually include things he really needs in his gifts like shoes, clothes, PJs.
So I do regular shopping for him but call it birthday so I feel a little less guilty!
Plus toys and books I've seen him enjoy at other peoples houses or in class.No birthday party this year. Last year he had a big party and I definitely spent less on gift. $60 on a Step2 push car and that's it.

We don't have a limit - I keep a strict monthly budget and work for it to fit within it. Thus year I spent about $80. That's mostly because we bought her a tricycle which pushed the price up (she's also getting some books, a puzzle and an aquadoodle). Without the trike it would have cost us about 20.

It depends. For example, my oldest had 3 big, expensive birthday parties the first 3 years of her life (60+ people). So we just got her smaller presents, around $40. But on her 4th birthday, we happened to be on vacation, so we just had a smaller party (just my parents and siblings) at our rented condo and made a homemade cake (which was basically $0). So as a gift, we got her a Pandora charm bracelet and some Disney charms, which is what she wanted. I think it ended up being $200.

Last year we probably spent ~$100 on a very small, simple party and her gift was a scooter that I think was close to $100.
This year we are getting her a fish tank which I have heard can be super pricey
and we are going all out on her party so I don't even want to say how much I think it will be!

We don't really have a limit either way... We can't afford super expensive gifts, we didn't even really get her an offiicial 1st birthday gift haha. For the years to come, it will probably just depends on what she needs/wants, and when she is even older, if it's appropriate, she can get a more expensive gift by combining bday and Christmas!

4th birthday in October will be about $100-125 in gifts (some clothes which she would need anyways) and a party.
and we are going all out on her party so I don't even want to say how much I think it will be!
