Here, it depends on the part of the city. I lived in the East End and a 3-br in our complex was around $900 per month. In more desirable neighborhoods, the price goes up quite a bit. 3-br houses usually rent anywhere from $700-$1500 per month, with the higher amounts in the better areas (Anchorage, St. Matthews, Prospect).

looking at Craigslist just now and looks like between $2500 & $3000 a month average

To rent a nice 3 bedroom in a safe area, probably $900-$1100. You can get ones that may not be in a desirable area, or not very updated for cheaper. However, our house has 4-5 bedrooms (depending on if you count the basement one, real window) and it's a couple hundred less to own this than to rent something that only has 3 bedrooms.
ETA: W. Michigan, I also have numbers for renting a house. An apartment/duplex is a bit cheaper.

In St Louis, about $1000, give or take.
Here in England, anywhere from $1400-2000. We pay $1600 for ours.

We rent a 3 Bdrm, 2 bath 2 story duplex right now for $550 a month. We totally lucked out - it's right downtown and renovated. We close on our first home next week and while we can't wait to move in, we will miss the cheap rent!!
ETA: in the winter it drops to $500 because DH shovels the walkway for the landlord, lol!

I think a townhouse would start at $1700 and house would start at $2000+. There aren't a ton of 3 BR (flat) condos in our area (Seattle burbs). This would be for a pretty basic probably non-updated rental place.
There are some really luxury properties that would be $3000+. Back when I used to rent, I saw listings for some amazing waterview properties that were just not in the budget but they were gorgeous!

Probably about $600-700 where I live now. I just moved in may, and my old city it would have been about $1200-1300.
ETA: apartments; my old neighborhood was bout $1800 for house, not sure about new neighborhood

I'm in Wisconsin, and to rent a 3 br, it would probably be around 1000-1300

In my neighbourhood (LIC), they are around $5700 to $12,000ish. There are very few of them and they are pretty small too IMO.

In my neighbourhood probably around $1,500. We rented a shitty 3 br apartment when we first moved to town that was $825. Totally sucked though!
ETA: I don't know of really any for rent on my street or anything (small town!) but a few streets over are around $1,500.

In my neighboorhood for a house with backyard or a townhouse I would say $1000-1200. Apartments, I would say 900-1100 depending on the area?

In a safe area probably minimum 1600 (looooong commute) average 2200-3000+ depending on apt/house neighborhood, other features.

san francisco = $3k - $7k, depending on the neighborhood. average is $4k/month.
we rent a 3 bdrm in sf by the beach for $2800/month.
SO jealous of the rents in other cities!!

Totally depends on the kind of place. I know the 3 BRs in the luxury apartment complex down the street where our friends live is upwards of $3200/month. And this is 30 mins outside of Boston! We live in a 3 BR townhouse style place (2 unit house) that would probably go for over $2200/month but we got a deal and our landlord hasn't raised the rent on us. Fingers crossed she won't!

Where I live outside of Boston, ~$1800+, depending on how nice the unit is.

Before we moved, we were paying 1400/month to rent a 3-bedroom townhouse built in the early '90s in a nice part of town.

We rent out our 3bd/2ba condo for $1200/month, which is well below market rent (we rent to a friend).
Usually a 3bd would go for around $1500-2000+, depending on area, features, # of bathrooms, etc.

A 3 bedroom house on our street is renting for $2,900 (Bay Area).
In the neighborhood we just moved out of in SF, 3bds are renting for around $8,500-$10,000. One bedrooms are going for about $3,000 there now.

In my zip code you can get 3br, 2 bath, 2 car garage for 1500-1700.

A 3bd apt would probably be around 900-1300 a month depending on how nice the finishes and location are. A house - probably 1500+
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
Depends on the area. I've seen them as cheap as 800 and as expensive as 3500.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
In my neighborhood there is one two houses down for $975. At our old apartment complex (luxury-gated, granite, brand new) a 3 bedrm unit was $950

I live in a 900 sq ft 2 bedroom apt outside the MSP/St. Paul MN metro and we pay close to 1k with utilities.
For a 3 bedroom the rent jumps to about $1200 (without utilities) and that's an apartment. For renting a house it's more like $1500-$1700. Housing here is too expensive in comparison with median income and other costs. It's the price of a nice suburb without being a nice suburb. I want to move!

For my neighborhood and others nearby with similar demographics, a quick scan of CL says about $2250-2600. These are mainly townhomes and single-family homes, since there aren't very many 3-br apartments around here. Other parts of the city seem to range from $3500+ (tony neighborhoods with amazing views) or in the $1200-1500 range (further away neighborhoods with less "desirable" characteristics).

Ua 3 bedroom condo or apartment is upwards of $2,000 per month. A 3 bedroom, single family home is closer to $3,000.

We charge $1600 for ours, but there's one down the street that's asking $2500. It's completely renovated, though, and ours is...not.
nectarine / 2085 posts
For an adequate, but definitely not fancy apartment, $1500 would get you 3BR and a bit over 1300 sq ft. If you want a single-family house, it would be $2000+.

Not sure about apartments, but a 3 bedroom house would rent for around $1100-1300 a month.
Back when we lived in California, our rent for a 3 bedroom house was $2525 a month.

In our town of 8,000 we have a crazy competitive rental market. Properties are often gone within 24 hours of being advertised as for rent. Currently a 3 bedroom runs anywhere from $1600 (cheap) to $2,500.

An apartment about 2k in a decent central location. Houses would be more.
