I'm talking the cheapest block of no name cheddar or mozerella --? The prices in the vancouver area just went up! It now costs just under 10$ for 900g of no name (the cheapest brand) block cheese. That's 10$ for just less than 2 lbs (~30oz)!
I heard cheese is a lot cheaper just across the border... hmm...

S. Ontario - For the cheapest kind? Probably around $7 for 900g. We buy 1kg blocks of five year old Balderson at Costco for $14 (usually we split one with my mumbecaus they're so huge).

It's $8 for 900g in Ottawa! We try to only buy it on sale, sometimes it's $3.99!

I don't know cheapest, but a 500g block of cracker barrel goes for 8.99 (loblaws, metro) to 7.50 (walmart). I'm in Ottawa-Gatineau.
Thankfully it's usually on sale with price match for around 6, and when it goes on sale for 4.44$ I stock up.

I don't know what the cheapest brand is but Tillamook is about $7.99-$8.99 for a 2lb brick. Much cheaper at costco, I live in Oregon.

@tysonja: Dairy products will always be more expensive in Canada. Stupid supply management limiting how much can be produced. DH threw out the receipt but superstore 500g brick is about $9.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: It really is, the store brands slways crumble when I slice them. We live about 2.5-3 hours away from Tillamook. We took the kids to the beach last month and stopped by the cheese factory and bought some specialty bricks, yum!

I find it rather ironic that NZ dairy products are often cheaper overseas than they are in New Zealand!
