Mine's a family heirloom, although not technically from my family or his, but my former boss. She's my surrogate mother, and instead of asking for my dad's blessing DH asked for hers. After he proposed she gave me the rest of the set...a matching necklace and earrings, which I wore on our wedding day.

Very expensive. Wish I didn't know.

We spent just over 1k (1100)... it appraised for almost 5! Perk of one of my moms clients being a wholesale diamond dealer. tehe

I'm voting 500-1000 b/c it was so close & still VERY far from 2000.

Mine was over $15k. The only reason I know is because DH's comment about the appraisal coming in a smidge higher than what he paid. I joked he got a bargain at the time. AND then I had to use the appraisal to get a rider on our home owner policy.

Mine was between 1-2K. We didn't pay as much as we could have because my diamond is an heirloom diamond so we just picked a setting I loved.

I think we ended up around $4k, including my wedding band.

Mine was 1700 I believe. Wedding rings were another 500.

i think mine was around 1-2k, not sure the exact amount. i didn't want a diamond so he got me a gorgeous pink sapphire and i love it. i actually told him that if he spent more than 2k OR got me a diamond, i would be pissed! i would much rather have that money for a down payment on a house or savings IMO.

Mine was between $3-4k but I got it appraised at more then double, which was DH's happiest moment haha.

@regberadaisy: LOL. yea, i think he thought it was some sort of "test", thinking hmmm is she just saying that to see how much i will spend on her? so i had to reassure him about 100x that no i really did not want a diamond and that i would in fact kill him if he spent more than 2k on it.

Expensive, but not as much as people think because, we bought the diamond and then we went to a custom jeweler and I drew out the design and he made it. It would have been WAY WAY more if I had just bought it from the jewelry store all made and done. I saw it in a catalog and the price made me hyperventilate. So, I showed my jeweler the design, but I drew out all the changes I wanted to it and specifications. Then, we dropped off the center stone and he did the rest.

When we went to pick rings, my DH gave me a budget. And when he saw my ring, he still to this day cant believe I kept it at budget.

Expensive but even so we got a deal. DH's Dad, BFF is a jeweler, so DH got it pretty much at cost. Appraised much higher then he paid.

I picked out the sapphire stone in my ring so I know how much the sapphire alone cost, about $950. Add the setting and diamonds in the setting and I know it was somewhere between $1k and $2k. I used to know what it was appraised for because I saw the paperwork, but I don't remember. We got the ring for a deal because the jeweler is a friend of a family member.

i agree with a few of the PPs - it was very expensive and i wish i didn't know. at the time i was just in love with it, but over time it's unnecessary and my tastes are always changing. also, i think where we live (tri-state), people have a tendency to over-value and over spend on these things. would love to pass it down to a future DIL or something one day!
