Expensive enough that I hide my hands when I am in a shady part of town.

expensive. dh bought the rock then designed the set himself. it's the first thing we insured after we closed on our house (he proposed the night before closing)

Mine was $14K+. We insured it under a separate policy since the value was too high for a rental/homeowner insurance rider. I don't regret the purchase price...

    I don't want to know.

I don't mean for this to sound snobby at all, but I think the poll should have wider ranges especially much higher than $14K since in my circle $10-$15K is like a starting point for just the center stone, then it can get much higher depending on the setting or any side stones.

That said, although I love my 'blingy' 2 ct. diamond if I had to do it all over again I would have gotten a much smaller center stone. After wearing it for 4.5 years I've realized that I'm just not that flashy of a person. But I still love it and think DH did an amazing job picking it out!

Expensive, and I love it but I sometimes think we should have gone cheaper. Then I get it cleaned and those thoughts go away! lol!

my e-ring and wedding band are expensive enough to make me feel guilty he says he doesn't regret a single penny he spent on them and I love my ring! but....I still feel guilty!

@prettylizy: oh, i'm the same way after mine are cleaned...i'm like 'ooh, best money spent, ever!' lol

Really expensive and neither of us regret it Its the only jewelry I wear (plus wedding band) and it makes us both smile when we look at it. It's classic but not common, has great memories associated, and he's proud of it.

I dont know what DH paid but I know its appraised for a lot bc I handle the insurance for our family. I love it and I dont think DH regrets the amount he spent at all. I had told him beforehand that I did not want an upgrade in a few years (as some of his friends have planned to do) so I told him to wait until he could get it right and boy did he ever!

@mrsjyw: Yay - we got engaged right after closing when we went to walk through our home for the first time as homeowners! Talk about an overwhelming 24 hours huh?

@sarbear: Ditto on the "expensive enough to make me feel guilty"! We put 20% down on our first home purchase and could have doubled that to 40% if he hadn't bought me my e ring... But we both really truly love my ring.

5k...it was all he had at the time. He had only had his "real" job for less than a year.

Less than $900. 1 carat set in palladium. Thank you moissanite!!

We only had to pay for the setting, which was around $500 ( I think, seems like a million years ago) and that includes the wedding band. My diamond is my Grandmother's, and it has gone through one whole marriage that made it to more than 50 years!

@Modern Daisy: Wow! Wish I was in your circle! I looovveeeee bling.

My center stone is JUST below a carat it and it is the largest out of any of my friends.

Holy... I would vomit if someone told me I had to be responsible for a ring in the tens of thousands.

How do you guys not have panic attacks all the time?

P.S. My ring is an antique, small diamond, exactly what I asked for. Under $500. I like it that way. I'm not scared of it.

@babyjmama: oh, I know! My husband thinks budget means: "stay well below this #". To me, a budget means "spend UP TO this number, but not above"
Men have a silly way to them ;p bahaha. Oh whatever, I try to justify it with.

the center stone was a family heirloom that dh had reset. the new setting was just under 2k, if I remember right, but the whole ring is worth more than twice that with the center stone

@Arden: Insurance is what keeps me sane. Otherwise I wouldn't wear it out of the house. Paying for the insurance is annoying though

    @TurtleDoves: Haha! Too funny

@Rainbow Sprinkles: My DH and his friends bought our e-rings within a couple years of each other and all of us ladies got the same exact center stone - round brilliant around 2 carats. As my girlfriends get engaged, they all get the same thing it's actually kind of funny how no one ends up even with a different shape!

If I were to pick out my own ideal e-ring today though the center stone would be just below a carat. I think that's the perfect size.

@Arden: Yup, it's all about insurance! Every time I get a new piece of jewelry it gets added to the policy too.

@Modern Daisy: Do we know each other?! You basically just described my ring I had a male attorney in his mid-70s today ask me if my ring was insured - mind you, this was during a deposition and he's the plaintiff in the case. Little awkward!

@Arden: I third the insurance comment...I panic all the time about it but at the end of the day if something happened we can be taken care of for the small fee of $11/mth
