At our local Big Latch On event a local photographer was taking pictures to document the event. She managed to snap a fairly good picture of me nursing my DD in our baby carrier. It's nothing fancy but is a sweet pic. I want to order the digital copy of it but it's $30 for just that photo. DH thinks that's crazy for 1 picture that he could have taken if he was there. Would you order the pic? Is $30 a crazy price to pay for 1 photo?

Ugh tell me about it! I want to buy some of the photos of my husband doing a recent bike event, but they are also $30 for each digital, or $65 for the disc. I'm thinking we should just order 3 5x7s instead for the $30. I realize that professional photos are expensive and everyone needs to get paid, but its still annoying

$30 is a lot! BUT I feel it isn't often we as moms get candid photos of ourselves with LO, I find I am the one taking the pictures most of the time. So if I really liked the picture I would get it.

Photography is one of the few things I splurge on. We buy used, coupon, etc, so that we can spend money on photos. I don't regret any of the professional photos I've bought.
It's a memory I get to look at forever. It's worth it.

It's a lot but, I think I would pay that for a good breast feeding photo. It's such a special, intimate time in your life, it would be lovely to have it documented.

It's no doubt I'm a cheap ass to the T. But if it was a really great picture that I loved then I probably would. GREAT candid pictures are hard to come by. Especially when you're the mom!

Goodness! The pictures from Disney world weren't that expensive! I thought the $15 that they charge per picture was too much! I probably wouldn't get it unless it was the best picture ever.

I once paid $20 bucks for a stupid photo with a friend in Vegas. My friend is into pics and displays photos on walls and tables. Anyway, it was a total waste of money.
What will you do with the lactation photo?

Holy shit. No way. Id bust out a camera and let DH take one. $30 is crazy pants. Id maybe pay $10-15 if I really loved the picture.

$30 is crazy, but if I really loved the picture I'd begrudgingly get it anyway. We paid around that much for a photo of DH and I in Jamaica the resort photographer took of us. It was expensive but it's a super nice picture of us.
Usually I try and get a photography package instead, like recently I paid $200 for my maternity photos, which included all the digital photos (around 30 or so).
Personally I'd always rather have a digital version than just a print. I can print it as many times as I want that way, and I have a backup if the print gets damaged.

Yeah, that's nuts. As someone who has done photography, I never understood why many photos have to hike their print prices up so much. They usually cost less than $5 to print. If they brought their pricing down a little, maybe to 15-20, I would be much more likely to buy these pictures.
The only location print I ever bought was of my DH and I in the Willis tower in Chicago. I love that one. -

I think it's a fair price for one digital print. After all, they're releasing copyright to you.
When paying for photograohy, you pay for so much more than just the actual image of you.
You're paying for their experience and time, their travel and editig costs, and in some cases, the rights to reproduce the photograph.
The photo is great because the photographer is great, so IMO it's worth the price.

Photographers have to pay for very expensive equipment and software, and they usually spend a considerable amount of time sorting and editing. They are putting a lot more time, effort, and money into it. It isn't the same as hubby snapping a pic. Professionals deserve to be paid fairly and have their work taken seriously.

I'm a professional photographer, I do not shoot events, mostly weddings. But I do have over $25,000 in equipment and pay thousands of dollars a year to run my business before I make anything. I don't presume to know anything about this photographer and their equipment/credentials but in general photography is an expensive profession. I invest in photography without hesitation because it's a priority to me. I don't think $30 is the most expensive I've heard. I would buy it if you have a 'plan' for it. To print it and put it in a baby book perhaps.

$30 sounds really steep to me. The photographer at our local BLO event on Saturday refused payment, but I think a fair price would be somewhere in the middle. She does Breastfeeding mini sessions where it's a pre-set location with styling and 3 pics for $65 as her normal fee.

@CraftyMom13: Can you give DH the opportunity to take a good one with the idea that if he doesn't take a good one you can buy the $30 one?
My DH took a picture of LO's last nursing session. The moment was so sweet, the three of us sitting together talking about the whole nursing journey. The picture was not. LO looked giant and like she was ripping my breast off my chest. After seeing my DH's attempt I would pay $30 for a good pic.

Any pro pics I have bought recently (agility dog show stuff, my running, horse shows) I've paid that (or opted for pkg of multiples).
I value those pics so much, the quality, and those moments as I am usually behind the camera (taking less awesome pics, but envy/appreciate the talent and equipment!)
I think you have to ask yourself if you opt to not get it, in 20 years will you wish you had?
I vote go for it!
