We've made it a point to buy 1 or 2 things for LO each pay period so that our initial costs are spread out. This means that I update our registry 1 or 2 times a month depending on what we've bought.
How often do you update your registry?

We're doing the same thing, buying a few cloth diapers each week, or other gear. I don't have EVERYTHING on the registry though.

That's smart. We have basically bought very little (besides furniture and whatever we've found at consignment sales) and are waiting until after the showers to pick up anything we still need.

@Arden: We put everything on the registry because we use it also as a list for ourselves for what we want. We don't expect people to really buy much off of it, but it's a convenient resource for us too this way...the completion discounts won't hurt either!

I only updated our registry when I wanted to add or change an item. I didn't put everything on our registry, but that's a good idea.

@MaisyMay: that's how we looked at it too! So whatever is left, I need to buy at some point: shampoo, diaper cream, milk storage bags, etc

@MaisyMay: I totally understand the list and the completion discount thing!
I actually made two registries, one for the public and one private one just for me on Amazon.
The reason I have two is kind of silly, maybe I'm over thinking it, but here's what I'm thinking.
If people have a huge list of things to choose from, they will be less likely to buy the things we need the most. They will gravitate towards clothes, toys, and cute things instead of gear, cloth diapers, toiletries, and other things that are more necessary.
So I put only the stuff we actually NEED on there for now, and if a lot gets purchased, I'll move more luxury items over from the private registry to the public one so they still have plenty to choose from.

I used a registry to keep track of things we needed, so I updated it whenever we bought something from it. Sometimes that meant items were deleted, but other times, it meant I added more of a good thing.

I had a huge coed shower so I really didn't buy anything at first, I wanted to wait to see what would get bought for me. I did update pretty often though because I'd go online and see different things that I wanted, research and find better products, etc.
