My LO stayed overnight at my moms last night for the first time ever (8 months). The only other time time he has been gone overnight was at 6 weeks with my in laws. I was a nervous wreck, but enjoyed the break and the sleep!

We were averaging about once ever 6 weeks with my inlaws and once every 3 months with my parents, but my daughter has learned to escape a pack in play and doesnt do great sleeping in a bed yet so neither set has taken her in a while

None of our parents live close by : ( we are heading home in Feb when LO will be 3 months old. Hubs and I will probably do a night out where my parents will watch her all night (even though we'll be sleeping in the same house).

DS was 18 months the first time he stayed with my parents overnight, and then once when he was 2, and 4 nights while being 3 (two nights were during my stay at the hospital when DD was born).
DD probably will once she is a year old for our anniversary.

Some of my best memories are from sleeping over at my grandma's house growing up. I probably averaged once a week. With three younger sisters it was a place to escape the craziness and be spoiled for a bit!
It's one of the things that makes me most sad about DH and I possibly moving across the country - that our future kids won't get to experience the same closeness with their grandparents.

My mom stayed at our house once while dh and I stayed at a hotel. She was 17 months. I don't plan on doing it often.

@char54: I agree. I loved sleep overs at my grandparents houses.
I hope to be able to do this often with both sets of parents!

WHAT!! That's a thing? LO is 19 months and this hasn't happened yet. How do I make this happen?

@GreekWife: ahaha, I don't know if it's a "thing"... maybe just ask your folks or your husbands folks if they would like to babysit one night so you and your DH can have a date night. Ask them if they want to keep LO over night as well, for a sleep over!

@.twist.: Well, my mom lives with us, so we get nights out. When my in-laws talk about having her stay the night, it seems like they are talking about when she's 5!

Hasn't happened yet. Although we may plan a weekend getaway while we visit my mom. But it's supposed to be when she experiences separation anxiety. So I don't know if that's gonna happen. She's 6 mo.

Not often enough!
Only once this year! LO sleeps through the night but my MIL still refuses to watch her overnight!

@GreekWife: ooooh. Maybe they're scared to take care of her because she's so young right now? haha I honestly don't know when my parents started letting me stay the night at my grandparents, and I have no kids of my own yet (although my step boys spend lots of nights at their grandparents but they're 5 & 8).

I have this fantasy that when we have a baby, every three months, we'll have the in laws kept LO and we will go on a weekend trip together - we usually go on a short out of town weekend every month now. Guess it really is just fantasy land stuff of a non-mom based on y'alls responses LOL

My parents have had DD over every fri night since she was 3, starting the day I gave birth to DS. They never wanted to have her spend the night before that, but after she stayed out of necessity that one time they realized it was fun and no trouble at all and it's been a regular pattern ever since. I wish they would take both kids but I guess they only want one at a time.
