Our lo is almost 3.5 and she has been twice. The first was a well-baby visit and the one today was her first teeth cleaning.

2 years old and she's been once (the week after her second birthday). Her next visit is scheduled for mid-February.

Twice. Once at two then again at 3. We missed her 6m at 3.5 so it's been rescheduled.

Just shy of 3, and she's been 3 times.
12 months, and she's been once (unnecessary, but they checked her when we had her sister's appointment)

She is 3.5 and has been 3x, every 6 months. The last appointment was a bit of a struggle during her cleaning though.

DS- He's 3.5, he started going at 1 and he goes 2x a year.
DD- She just turned 1 and she has gone 1X. She will be going 2x a year going forward.

3y3m, and he's been once so far (right after his birthday). He goes back in March, I think.

LO is 18 months. He had his first visit over the summer at 15 months just to meet the dentist. We are going to try for his first cleaning around his 2nd birthday.

She's 2 and has been twice. We went right at one year, because she had some staining from iron drops, and I wanted a cleaning.

2.5 and she's been twice. Once about a year ago and then again last week for her first real cleaning.

For those who took their kids at 2 years or younger, how did it go??
I can't imagine our two-year old sitting in the chair in a strange office with strangers, let alone opening his mouth and allowing the dentist/hygienist to put something in! (He mostly "brushes" his own teeth; we can convince him to let us help, but we only get about 30 seconds of brushing in before he is DONE.)

@Ms maths: they can sit on your lap when they are 2! LO1 has always done great and sat in the chair from 18 months on. LO2 wasn't a fan the first time so she sat on my lap for that one visit and then was fine subsequently.
My almost 3 year old has been 3x. Lost count for my 5.5 year old.

@Ms maths: She sat in my lap and did great! They had SpongeBob on the tv so she watched that and it was fine. The dentist counted her teeth and checked for cavities then brushed them and applied fluoride. He was really quick and LO didn't cry or protest at all.

I'm surprised at these replies. My FIL is a dentist and he says that unless you notice a problem, it's fine to wait until they're 4 years old. We already get fluoride at the pediatrician's office, and she drinks fluoridated water and brushes twice a day.

@Oxana: yeah our pedi said we don't need to take her till she is 3. My dentist said the same thing.

Just turned 2 and had her first visit last week. We were told to bring her in again in the spring at 2.5 years.
Edited to add: I come from a family of dentists and we only brought her in because I suspected she might have a cavity (she did not, but did have some calcification, so the next visit will be to check on that).

Every 6 months since 15 months old (except my oldest, he started going at 2).

Every 6 months since 18 months. But he hasn't had a cleaning yet. He is 3.5 and his next appointment is next month. We are hoping to get a cleaning in this time.
The reason we started taking him early is that I have horrible enamel on my teeth and I never had a good experience at the dentist as a kid. I want him to have a positive association with the dentist. I want it to just be a routine with him and not have the fear that I had for a long time.

He turned 3 in September and has his second cleaning this week. He got half of his teeth at 2.5 so I waited until most of them came in to take him the first time.

None and he's 2. He'll start going next year. Our health insurance lumps vision and dental together. Can't buy one or the either. It's both or nothing.

@Ms maths: He sat on his own and did fine. I wanted to start him young so he could get used to it. It worked great because he does amazing at the dentist.

@Oxana: Our ped doesn't do fluoride so we need to go for that. LO just turned 2 and I need to make her an appointment.

LO is almost 3 and has been 4 times--not all for cleanings/exams, though! the 1st was at 9 months when he fell and knocked a tooth out. then at 18 months we went back, but the dentist just looked at his teeth--it was more to get him acclimated to the dentist's office and make sure nothing was awry. don't think we would have done it except that they suggested we make the appointment when we went in at 9 months.
3rd appointment was at 2.5 years--this was his first real cleaning and most of it freaked him out. he just had another cleaning appointment--he still sat in dad's lap but apparently did great.

19 months and she's been twice which I think is a bit much. Our pedi recommended once at a year (which we did), but then they schedule one every six months which seems like overkill at this age? I think I'll put a year between her second and third one.
pomegranate / 3393 posts
2.5 and he's been twice, at 20 and 26 months. We're going to go every 6 months from here on out.
pomegranate / 3393 posts
@Oxana: that is not the latest recommendations, which is to start at 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth.

2, and he has been two times (18 months and then right after he turned 2).

@MoonMoon: Are those official recommendations though, like the AAP? It looks like that's just that particular organization's position (please correct me if I'm wrong).
I confess I'm not that worried about it because FIL is a dentist and inspects LO's mouth for fun now and again.
pomegranate / 3768 posts
Almost 3 and been once but she refused to open her mouth for the cleaning.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Oxana: Yes, the AAP recommends the first dental visit by 1.
pomelo / 5298 posts
We didn't start until 3. She's now 4 and just had her third visit. Our ped recommended to start at 2. Honestly, I'm glad we waited as long as we did and it's worked out okay for us.
