I have yet to see a mega tantrum like the kind that people talk about. Like the rolling on the floor, screaming, and completely inconsolable. A couple of weeks ago, at 19 months, LO had the biggest meltdown I had ever seen when I brought him inside for dinner. He did NOT want to come inside....but it still wasn't quite the monstrous tantrum I feel like people try to warn you about (close though!). I am wondering when/if it will ever get that bad....or maybe my definition/threshold is really high!

DS is 17m and we've yet to see it either! fingers crossed it stays that way!

Knock on wood - my LO is 2 years 8 months and we have yet to see any major tantrum or meltdown. My friend has an almost 4 year old and she says her daughter never had tantrums either. Our pediatrician said it's more likely you'll skip the tantrum phase the more verbal the child is - and both of our girls are extremely verbal so maybe that's it. Whatever it is I'm crossing my fingers I'm just as lucky with #2

@californiadreams: we haven't had one either - I think it's a personality thing too. S has mini-meltdowns between pickup and supper, but nothing like rolling on the floor (just some tears and shaking of head).

I think maybe around 16 months? And he was/is pretty verbal for his age--he could definitely communicate at that point! But when he was tired, he threw some MEGA tantrums--rolling, screaming, the whole 9 yards. Luckily those were only at home, never in public!

@tinyperson: I believe you, I totally cannot picture S having a tantrum! L is pretty timid and calm, but i feel like he appears rowdy compared to S! lol.

@hilsy85: overtiredness is definitely when LO has his "worst" tantrums. I guess part of it is always being ready to follow their cues, which can be easier or harder depending on the situation. and personality like tinyperson said.

@sandy: That totally makes sense. My mom and I counted today and DS says 75+ words....so maybe that, in combination with temperament, will keep those tantrums away!

I think 19 months..... She's a feisty girl though, she has a lot of fire inside her so I'm sure there are even more epic ones to come

LO is 25 months and (knock on wood, throwing salt over my shoulder, crossing my fingers I’m not jinxing myself) she’s never had a full on bad meltdown tantrum. She's generally extremely easy-going though, which I'm sure helps; and she's very verbal.
The "worst" she’s been was in CVS last weekend when she started shrieking because I wouldn’t buy her a Revlon eyeshadow palette. She only shrieked if I tried to take it away and put it back on the shelf, or when I said we had to leave so finally I just said “ok, I’m leaving; bye!” and waved at her and started walking away and she cut it out immediately. She did, mid-shriek, demand a cup of coffee though, which made me laugh and so egged her on to repeatedly insist that she "needed" a cup of coffee LOL

None yet, thankfully! She'll do the hand on the forehead drama girl move, but no meltdowns yet. Fingers crossed that we don't have any major meltdowns anytime soon.

@californiadreams: same! we haven't seen any huge tantrums... just the whiny crying ones if we bring him in from playing outside, etc. I'm bracing myself for the 2s and 3s!

16 months was the spot for us, and she's vocally advanced for her age (doctor said this not just me.) So that wasn't the case for us, she just REALLY wants stuff and hate to hear no.
