How old was your LO when you switched from an infant seat to a convertible? I know it all depends on the size of your baby and your car seat, but I want to get a general feel for the timeline, from real moms... Please comment with any complicating factors....

We just switched R. He's not quite 12 months. He's on the smaller side, but I probably should have switched him a month ago. I have left the bucket seat in the car for months though...pretty much been using as a convertible since around 9m!

10 mos almost to the day. He was getting too tall for the infant seat (Cybex Aton 2) and was so heavy to carry.
We switched to the Chicco NextFit and we all love it so much more (including LO!). -
7 months for LO 1, one year for LO 2.

6 months in my car (primary vehicle) but used the infant carrier in my in-laws car until 21 months. It was a graco snug ride 35 and she's nowhere near the weight limit and probably had another inch left before she outgrew the height. It just didn't seem comfortable anymore!

DD is 6 months and I suspect we'll switch soon.

7-8 months for my oldest (seat was hired and due to be returned), three weeks for my second because he just didn't fit well in the infant seat we hired.

No option for us. LO will be 5mo next Sunday and we will be making the switch. This boy is a tank.

We asked my mil for convertible seats for Xmas. She'll be one on December 11th, so we'll make the switch after 1.

We switched a little before her birthday, butt she still has room in the infant seat and we could have done another month or two, but once we bought the convertible we had no place to store it so we switched. We have a graco snugride with the 22 lb limit by she's always been on the smaller side. Like some others I started leaving it in the car a lot and only took t out and carried it when she fell asleep.

My girls were too tall by six months. My first was too heavy at five months.
They're convenient but so short lived. -

7-8 months for DS and 14 (a week shy from 15) months for DD.

We switched at 7 months - we did it early bc DS had reflux and hated the infant seat, plus he never transferred so that capability wasn't useful for us!

I bought a longer one on purpose so It would have longer life! I think we managed to stretch it to 14 months?

LO is almost 8 months and has only about an inch left before he hits the height limit for his infant seat. I bought a convertible in the Black Friday sale. It's our Christmas gift to him, but we'll put him in it early if we need to.

We skipped the infant seat altogether and started with a convertible.

I couldn't vote because it was before 6 months. DS1 at around 5 months. He was so heavy and could sit up well in a high chair, so we switched. DS2 at about 3 months. He hated the carseat so we switched to see if a convertible would help. It only did slightly.

My LO is a long skinny child. We switched at 10 months in my car because she was getting too tall and heavy, and because we got a good deal on a britax seat on Amazon at that time. We left the bucket seat in DH's car until just after 12 months--she primarily rides with me--and she still fit but seemed more comfortable in the bigger seat.
For LO2, we plan to move him around the same time. The exact timing will depend on when we find a good deal on a booster for LO1 as we will have LO2 inherit her old seats (they are 3.1/2 years apart).

I voted with 7 months for my first. It was once she was able to sit up in high chairs at restaurants and in the seat of the grocery cart. My second is still in the infant seat because the infant seat rear facing takes up a little less space in the backseat than the convertible we have. (I already bought the convertible - almost 6 months ago actually.) I know I'll need to change it sometime though, based on his height - if he's like his sister, he could make it past 2 based on weight.

It was around 9 months. He was tiny, and could have lasted longer in it, but we were making a 10-hour drive to Michigan for my grandfather's funeral, and we thought he'd be more comfortable in the bigger seat.

I forget exactly when, but around 6/7 months for both.

Not yet, but he's really close to the height limit. LO is 7mos on Tuesday. If he keeps tracking along the same height percentile, he'll outgrow it within the next 6 weeks.

Almost 2....they're twins though, so, they're small for their age.

We will probably switch as soon as possible. We already have the convertibles and they seem so much more comfy than the infant seats. Time will tell!

LO is 13mos and we are still using the bucket in my car, though DH's car has a convertible (she's in that car mostly). She's a tiny gal, so she still fits in the bucket just fine, but DH wanted to upgrade.

10 months in DH's car because his car was involved in a crash and he didn't see a point in replacing the base (and wasn't comfortable with doing a baseless install every time). I've been clinging to the infant seat because it is so convenient to use due to our building/parking set up but we'll be switching this week at almost 12 months.
I'm really glad we went with a seat that goes to 32 inches because she is tall and would have outgrown the 30 inch ones awhile ago.

We just switched at 4 months. LO has reflux & hated his infant seat so I wanted to switch to see if it would make a difference. We got a diono radian and the weight goes down to (I think) 5 lbs so it can be used from birth.

6 months for my son. He was so heavy and I found the infant carrier so cumbersome. Was very glad to switch to the convertible!

We didn't switch my first until past a year. We moved DD2 at 6 months when the chest clip to our infant seat broke. I actually like it better.

We hired our infant capsule until 6 mo and by then he looked a tiny but cramped! Switching to convertible gave us more room in the front seat too (capsule was quite clunky).

We'll be switching right as DD turns 8 months. She could still fit in the infant seat but I wanted to get the convertible on a Black Friday sale and I'm ready to switch. Convertible seats seem more comfortable. Next baby I might just go straight to the convertible. I've never been in love with the infant seat.

We just did it at 18 months, and couldn't have waited too much longer height wise. LO1 we switched even later, at 22 months when LO2 was born, but at that time we didn't own a car, so it made sense to keep the capsule for taxis as long as she fit.

7-8 months for my tall kiddo.

13.5 months or so...She was at tiny peanut! Once the bucket was too heavy, we just left it in the car.
