@shopaholic: at that age we just got her familiar with the potty and every once in awhile she would pee or poo but it was just lucky timing. At that age it's difficult for them to understand how their bladder works - so we kind of have to teach them to make that connection (think Pavlov's dogs). I've read everywhere that under 2.5 you can teach them basically cause/effect of how to use the potty using the 3 day bottomless method. If they're older it's not effective but when they're young it can be very effective. We did the 3 day method at 24 months with success and I know it's worked for lots of people. She doesn't sound ready to me. 18 months is about the earliest that kids usually start to have some readiness, so you are very early. I'd keep having her sit in it, but it's going to be tiufh to get past that until she knows when she has to go. You might start with reading some potty books or one of the potty movies with her.

@shopaholic: I think naked time is helpful. Whenever we are in our yard I try to let T be naked. She has started trying to watch herself when she pees now! Also, look up "toilet learning." We were doing well with this method and having some success- basically putting her on the potty several times a day, at specific times (before/after meals, sleeping, etc.). She will occasionally communicate that she needs to use the potty. Mostly she doesn't, but like you I don't really have expectations around it. We talk about pee, too- like she often comes to the bathroom with me and my husband, and we talk to her about the process. We were at the farm the other day and a cow was peeing and she shouted "peeee!"

The other night she did ask to get out of the tub and onto the potty so that she could poop. The whole process has been worth it just for that one moment, because it meant I didn't have to deal with poop in the tub!
