As a guest, I have no preference where you put the registry info, as long as it is included in the envelope. I know a lot of people think it's tacky, but let's be real here, if I am invited, I am bringing a gift and I'd rather it be something you need, rather than some thing I select ( i am invited, right, lol).

I like the info to be included on the invitation...I always lose those little store slips and honestly I hate when registry info is not included and I have to do the work of calling/emailing family or friends or random web searches. Ain't nobody got time for that! Don't make me work since you will probably force me to embarrass myself with some type of game at your shower.

That probably goes against etiquette but let's be for real here.

I agree with @Happygal: If you are hosting the event yourself I would not include registry info.

If someone else is hosting it, let them worry about logistics like that, no need to bother yourself with it.

Normally, on the invite because it's one less thing for me to lose But in this case - where you're hosting the event for yourself - I'd leave it out entirely.

If you're hosting it yourself, for mostly out of town guests who are traveling to come to your party thing, I wouldn't put anything regarding a registry in/on the invite.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: oh yeah, I imagine if people are meeting the baby for the first time that they'll bring a gift. I just think including the registry info implies that you expect a gift, even if that is not the case. That said, you know your crowd best, and if they won't be put off, I'd just put it on the invite.

I would bring a gift if I were meeting the baby for the first time (and I didn't already give a shower gift), though I probably wouldn't think to buy off a registry. I would just buy some cute clothing. If there was registry info already on the invite I might get something off the registry but I would expect that by the time baby comes, you would have most things that you absolutely needed.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: That's the thing, the gift "should be" whatever the person bringing it deems appropriate, not what you deem appropriate. In this day and age most people know how to google a registry if they want to bring you something off of it. When I meet a new baby I tend to bring an outfit rather than a registry item even if I didn't go to a shower. I would resent being provided registry info by the new parents.

I, personally, would be a little shocked and think less of someone if they invited me to a party to meet their new baby and included a list of gift requests. Part of the pleasure of gift giving is choosing something special for the other person (and then the person's job is to fake delight, then donate ). But there is a cultural difference here, of course, so take what I say with a pinch of salt.

If you do decide you want to include the registry info, Id pop the shop's card in with the invitation so it looks more like a casual FYI and not a pre requisite of attendance.

I would bring a gift but wouldn't expect that a registry would still be around after the baby is already born since I would expect all the preparations for baby to be in place already.

If I was traveling far, I’m probably traveling by air which dictates what I’m going to bring more than knowing what’s on a registry or not. Space issues, TSA restrictions, etc. I would just inform a few key family members (parents) where you’re registered and let word of mouth work for those who want to bring a gift off the registry.

Also, to be honest, I think putting registry info on an invite for a baby that’s several months old seems a little close to gift-grabby territory. I dunno, just seems different from asking for items to “get ready and prepare” for baby.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I didn't have a shower and live out of state from my family and friends. Before baby was born, we received a lot of bigger, shower type items from those folks (stroller, car seats, bottles, blankets, etc....). After the baby was born, people - even the ones travelling - usually visit with outfits, blankets, small toys, etc.... That's just my experience.

I would leave it off and just offer it out through family members. Make sure to email it to your mom or MIL and they can spread it around accordingly.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I think that kind of thinking is what people are saying listing the registry insinuates. It's really great you've been so kind to your friends' kids... if they want to reciprocate, they will email you for the registry (or just buy something random). I guess I don't see the issue with leaving it off?

With that said, you know your friends best! Going off your preliminary basic question, I would just list it on the invite - it gives a cleaner look.

If my friend wasn't having a shower and instead was going to have a sip and see, I wouldn't't be offended if she included her registry on the invite! To answer your actual question, I would prefer the registry on the actual invite as I always lose those cards!

Your friends and family are going to want to shower you with gifts whether it's before or after that baby. A registry just makes it easy for them

PS - My family doesn't throw showers... we give gifts after the baby is born. My sweet friends threw me one though, so I registered. I can't tell you the number of people who asked me where I was registered!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: for what it's worth, literally two people bought things off the registry I spent hours researching and creating. People do what they want.
In this scenario, I'd ask your mom to email people the link to the registry. Is that an option? If not, I think an extra card would be fine. I've never thought someone was being "gift grabby" unless it's like a full blown shower for a third kid or something and I find registries to be helpful.
