My 7 week old was colicky:( she cried most of the day and I pretty much was nursing for hours. If not nursing, I would be bouncing her on an exercise ball! I don't think most babies are like mine.

weeks 5-7 were the roughest, but once he hit the 7 week mark, it was a turning point and things got a lot better for us.

eta: even though he wasn't colicky and was a pretty good baby, i don't think i would've been able to work and watch him at the same time. they're pretty time consuming, especially if you plan to breastfeed (like every other hour at that age from the beginning of a feeding... so by the time you're done feeding, it'll be almost time to feed again). getting them down for naps and stuff may take awhile too, or you may find yourself with them napping in your arms because they may not be great at sleeping on their own yet.

hmmm.....OK, well. If you're using a paci, that could help and bfing?

My son didn't sleep too much at the time (most do). But, when he was awake he was usually VERY quiet and just sat there in the swing or something.
If he fussed and I was on the phone or trying to eat or something, I'd just attach him to my breast and he would immediately calm down and hush. Or, I would give him the paci and that did the trick as well.
The only time he SCREAMED and wouldn't stop, is if he was hungry. Either have a bottle ready at all times, or be ready to BF reaaallly quickly so your phone call/meeting doesn't get disturbed.
Honestly, I don't know where you work, but I had a desk job before and I think I could have taken LO. The only annoying part would be always having to be ready with a paci or breast to hush him if he fussed. You obviously don't want him wailing while you're on the phone...

oh! and maybe get a sling so if you need to rock or "dance around" with him to get him to hush, then you can just do that and photocopy at the same time....or grab the phone to your ear and rock the baby at the same time.

She was SO fussy! Every time we left the house was a battle, and she couldn't be out more than like an hour or maybe 2. (Earlier on she had been much easier, but once she hit 5 weeks it was on!!) she was happier in the mornings but cried for hours the afternoons and evenings. But you could have an easy baby, I do now. You just never know.

You can bring a newborn to work with you?! No advice on the 7 week old part, but just thinking of myself, I don't know if I could still actually do a job with a baby (and I don't just mean in the physical act of actually "doing" the job, but just the distraction--good and bad--of it altogether! I know for a fact I wouldn't be giving it 100%).

I took DS to my bff's baby shower at 7/8 weeks and from what I recall, he was on a loose eat-play-sleep every 3 hour cycle. He was like that for a few wks, but that quickly was thrown off with random nighttime sleep that would affect the daytime cycles.

He was an unusually not fussy baby tho and I think I could've brought him to work if I had to...good luck!

Mine pretty much wanted to be held and/or nursing all of the time, but every baby is different.

@MrsTiz: you could try it. No harm in that right? And the thing is: eventually you will HAVE to stop taking him to work. I mean, at 12w, they need to be played with all the time and they coo alot, and they want to try and sit and listen to music...so eventually, it will have to end.

My 7 week old was very easy - I definitely could have taken her to work with me. If you could wear him, that would probably help keep him happy. Also, he could nap in the carseat and you could rock him with your foot? Oh, and I'm sure you'd probably have a handful of people that would want to hold him and play with him, giving you some additional time to get work done

I don't think it's a good to plan on having this work out. You just don't know what your baby is going to be like until they arrive. My daughter was a relatively easy baby, but I still could not get work done while I was taking care of her. She wasn't a big napper, and she required constant motion to nap. I was on maternity leave until 12 weeks, but I had to write a couple of proposals for work during that time. The first proposal ended up not getting written. The second one took weeks to prepare with me working every moment that DD finally managed to nap. If I had someone to watch that baby during that time, I would have gotten the thing written in a fraction of that time.

My baby was really chill and laid back last week but being on the phone could've been tough if she was crying. She napped well enough but things like swings and whatnot are SO helpful. Baby wearing would be good.

I think it'll be less stressful to leave the baby with your MIL though. Maybe you could bring LO for half days

A was (and is) pretty happy, but he doesn't sleep all day, that's for sure. Now at 8.5 weeks he's cool with playing on a blanket on his own for about 30 minutes at a time.

My DS was a dream at 7 weeks and still is!
He slept most of the day away. He wanted to eat every 3 hours though!

I didn't read all the posts above but could you get set up at home at least to take calls and be on the computer? That would be easier, I think. At 7 weeks my son required a ton of rocking to go to sleep and was a super light sleeper, and needed dark. He was never one of those sleep anywhere type of kids, unfortunately.

@MrsTiz: just to add tht we started daycare when she was 12 weeks and I felt like that was a good age. I mean I would have loved to stay home more but that age was good. You are right that 7 weeks is young to start daycare.

Sadie is 16 weeks, and I'm just recently able to get work done at home with her. The first couple of months were definitely an adjustment for us. Sadie is the easiest baby I've ever met, but newborns are very time consuming. In the beginning I could barely manage to take care of her and get the laundry done in one day. I've worked out a groove, where I can manage to get editing, housework, and playtime in during the day... but it definitely took time to get here. I would have lost it if I had to work with her at 7 weeks!

My advice is to get a good baby carrier and wear baby a lot! DD slept in that thing so much (beco Gemini) while I was taking care of my 3 year old at the time. I think it's doable if you have an easy baby. For me, if I needed to make a phone call - I would nurse her. Is that possible at work? Good luck, @MrsTiz:!!!

Anna turned 8 weeks yesterday and I won't lie the past two weeks were rough.
She went through some changes and she wasn't consistent at all from day to day. One day she would nap soundly for 3 plus hours in the afternoon on her own and then the next day I was lucky to put her down for 10min long enough to pee alone.
Her preferences have changed a lot as well. She doesn't like the bouncer as much as she use to, she likes the swing more when she's sleepy, she enjoys laying on her back in the pack n play just kicking her feet...her feeding is finally consistent now at 5oz every 3 to 4 hours.
I went back to work the day she turned 6weeks and it wasn't easy for those that had her during the day.
I don't want to make you think it's not possible but it's not going to be as easy as the baby sleeping nicely while you work unless it's time to eat. At 7 weeks that's just not how they are anymore. At least none of my 3 daughters were that way at that age.
