If I get pregnant with #2 this fall and it's a boy: we're all set on names. But, DH and I were never able to agree on a girl's name. I have a favorite...he has a favorite and we can't stand each others favorites. We do like this name but we hope people can pronounce it correctly!

I'm sooo glad that the spelling is correct on that. The only other Hanya I know, spells hers like:
hanniah and it gets butchered! So DH was like "only if we can spell it in a way that does it justice". So, I think we have a front runner:)
Do you guys even like it though? It means to be at inner-peace or to be calm...they often call still waters: Hani which is the root word of Hanya.
Our son's name is Esom so it would have to sit decently with that name.

@TurtleDoves: I think I would be more prone to pronounce Hanniah, with han sounding like hand minus d. So like "Han-e-uh" -- I think because it looks like Hannah. I love the sound and meaning of Hanya though -- it's very pretty!

@TurtleDoves: I can see why Hanniah would be butchered, I would pronounce that Hahn-ny-ah, which is funny because one of DHs students spells her name that way and it is pronounced the way I would pronounce it. He wanted to name our LO that and I nixed it

@TurtleDoves: Layla used to be my favorite name for an LO, too...but it IS super common. Heh. You can tell I had a muslim boyfriend for 7 years. 
DH and Id ecided to go with Maya! It's a name that pops up in almost every culture--it's common in both English and Tamil (our languages) and has meanings for buddhists, hindus, jews, muslims, and mayans!
