All of these name posts have gotten me thinking...
How would you pronounce the name Emilia? I really love the name Emilia, but pronounced like "Em-ah-lee-ah". Kind of like Emily with an a at the end. But do most people pronounce it like "em-eel-yah"? Is there another spelling I could use for the pronunciation I like?

Em-eeh-lee-ah. I think Emmalia would be closest to the pronunciation you are looking for, though I could see the emphasis being on the MA there too.

What about Amalia? It's more similar to your preferred pronunciation, and often used in Spanish-speaking cultures. The Amalia I know goes by Molly.

Except for the first E, I pronounce the rest of the name like Amelia.

@NovBaby1112: is the extra syllable common in other languages? If so, spell it the way you have it and just correct people. I went to college with two women name Leticia- spelled the same way. One was from the Caribbean and pronounced it like La-tish-a her nn was Tish. The other was from Italy and pronounced it like Le-tee-ci-ah. Once we knee how both of them pronounced their name it was easy for us to say it correctly.

Thanks everyone for your input! I don't care for made up names, so I'm not sure about spelling it differently...and I don't want to have to constantly correct people either 
Amalia is very pretty, but I read it more like Ah-ma-lee-ah.
