I'm just so over it. I've been trying SO hard and it just takes so much energy. I hate being stuck at that awkward stage before you're close friends. And I'm tired of getting disappointed when I finally hang out with someone new and then we just don't click. It's seriously like dating.
Hopefully this is just a vent and ill feel differently tomorrow but right now I'm just ready to stop looking for friends and make my 16 month old and infant be my only BFFs lol.

I don't have any real mom friends (I'm a WOHM though so I know that's different) either. This makes me so sad though because (this will sound super creepy, brace yourself!) you seem so cool! I'd totally be your friend!!

I don't bother anymore either. I think if I worked, I could find mom friends...or at least friends who understand being a parent. Right now, the mom friends i've tried just don't click with me and I'm tired of trying when we have zero in common, other than we are both parents. Making new friends as an adult is already awkward and tough, let alone when we have nothing in common. At least in college, you may play on a sports team together or share a class, or work together. But in the real world, I can't find that common interest, except that "hey i'm a mom...and you're a mom...what to be my best friend?."

Me too. I'm lonely, but that awkward stage is.... Awkward. And I've totally been there where you get excited about new friendships and something just doesn't click.
My husband has friends he's been friends with since elementary school....I wish I had that. Waaah.

I was in the same place before B started preschool (so, the entire time he was a toddler). It was so tough! The preschool parents at least made me have regular conversations with adults and from there, our kids had play dates and I ended up meeting their friends (who I clicked with more).
It can be exhausting though! Especially if I don't particularly like how a mom friend parents - even if I click with her, ugh. It will get better, friend! We would hang out all the time if we lived closer

@babyjmama: p.s: the other day I was telling dh about the daycare experiences the HB girls shared shared with me and how it all gave me hope. And he's like "did you ask that girl from Kansas?" He needs you opinion, apparently your his best friend, hahaha.

I have totally been there too, and it's really frustrating. It took me close to a year after having LO to find a few good mom friends that I can call to vent, grab a drink, or do a play date with on a whim. Don't give up!

yeah, it's totally awkward meeting new friends. i'm lucky that i had friends already and we grew into mom friends. i want to meet more moms with kids R's age (a lot of my mom friends have a bit older kiddos) but it's totally awkward. have you trying going to a meet up group? maybe it won't be as awkward because the pool of moms is larger?
FWIW, we would totally be friends if you lived closer! move to SD!

Ahhh thanks everyone I love my HB friends so much. I'm the lame-o sitting crying during naptime about not having friends. So pathetic!!
I think I'm feeling worse because my BF from high school was in town last week and I'd forgotten how mice it was to actually look forward to hanging out with someone without being nervous. I can just talk to her without awkward silences or trying to figure out what to say. I just want that again.

@CupQuakeWalk: You're totally right about why its hard- you have to have something more in common than just being moms!
We go to story times, play groups and a moms group at church. My relationships with the moms that I've met just haven't gotten deeper...they're still just superficial and awkward. A lot of them seem like they already have friends that they're close to and I just feel like the third wheel? Idk.

All my mom "friends" are HelloBee moms. LOL I know we don't hangout or really know each other but I feel like we're sharing similar mom experiences and milestones. I started my family later than my childhood friends, high school, college friends etc... and my dear cousins. Some of them have kids in HS so I am at a different stage of motherhood than them. I definitely feel like HB moms would make awesome real life friends too. Thank goodness they are not imaginary friends. LOL

Oh I totally felt the same way! Turns out a lot of my friend and friends that are mommies... and for some reason they started inviting me to things and then I started to invite them to things and it worked out.
Maybe you can ask your childfree friends to introduce you to their other friends that are mommies?

It totally is like dating! It's so awkward and sometimes you put yourself out there only to be disappointed.
Don't give up bc once you do find a few mom friends it is so amazing having a group of women going through similar experiences.
It's taken me a good year to find good my mom friends. There are three of us that are super close (we have dinners together and date nights)...and there are 4-5 other moms that join us every week or so. We do mom brunch once a month and do at least 3 play dates/outings every week. I miss going into an office and having connections with peers so this definitely fulfills that need. I have another group of women that I do a picnic potluck with during the summer and I met them at the pool.
It is such a frustrating process but the payoff is huge! I've totally been there and understand the feeling. I went to so many mom group meetings and didn't connect with anyone beyond a superficial level for so long...it is so discouraging. I just kept going to things that my LO and I enjoyed and once I met someone I seemed to click with I would make plans to see them again and after a few times i would exchange numbers. Like dating, it can become a numbers game- the more dates you go on the more people you meet but it's hard to find the right person

@Running Elley: well I'm in the same situation. It's kinda disappointing but it is what it is, I've tried inviting new friends to go for a walk or coffee and I always get the run around. So I'm like you and not trying to make friends anymore. Good friends are hard to find.

@Raindrop: I think the main problem is that I moved away from my friends lol. We had a really close group of friends but DH and I moved back to our hometown when we decided to have kids. So now all of our friends back there have kids around the ages of ours but they're in a different town. If we hasn't moved my before friends kids would've totally become my mom friends!

We've just moved so I've left ALL my friends (mum or otherwise) and I literally don't know anybody apart from DH. I'm really trying to push myself to get out and about and introduce myself to the the other mums at play group and such.

@Running Elley: ugh I'm sorry you feel this way! I've been there too, mainly because most of my friends aren't in the same life stage anymore. I do have a couple of really close friends and to me, that's wayyy easier than trying to make new friends. I just dont have the energy right now to seriously attempt it. You're right- everyone else always seems like they have friends and they aren't interested in making new, deep friendships.

I feel the same way! I am super awkward and have a difficult time making friends. I hate small talk and I am always worried that people don't like me. I always walk away from a friend "date" kicking myself because I feel like I blew it.
@.twist.: My husband's the same way! He's been best friends with his group since high school.

FWIW, I have several mum friends and I never see them!! We are all too busy being mums, babies are sick etc. We speak over FB - so we may as well be HB friends for all the difference it makes!
