They say that ships are women... what about a website like Google?
I was just pondering this, and came across a whole bunch of articles on the same subject. A few points raised by the 'net:
* Google comes with a "feeling lucky" button... if you push it, it works every time. That leads me to believe it's a man.
* Google never gets lost, and is always quick to ask for directions (or at least, use the map it always seems to have lying around). According to gender stereotypes, we should score this as as +1 for "Google is a woman."
* Every time I visit Google, I get a fresh cookie. Women bake more than men, so that's another point for Google being a girl. [1]
* As one article put it, Google's friend "Wikipedia believes anything you tell her." [2] As we all know, Google tends to be more skeptical than that. This site says that men tend to be more skeptical than women [3]... so that suggests that Google is a man.
So far it's a tie!! You can be the tie-breaker. If Google were a person, would it be a man or a woman... and why?
[1] Slate article on gender and cooking<a/> - This article doesn't have any numbers on baking, but speculates at the end that baking is probably still dominated by women.
