@Vegmama: A lot of police where I am don't write reports... The insurance companies usually take statements from both sides to help determine fault (along with inspections of the damage, etc.). You shouldn't have to pay out of pocket any more than your deductible!

No, assuming that you're going to pay for the damage, I'd be stoked that the person was taking responsibility and didn't just hit and run it.
I had someone hit my car, and damaged the bumper and ripped off the rear license plate. Then they went ahead and put the license plate under my windshield wiper... breaking the wiper and scratching my windshield. So much better than me driving away without my plate that would have cost $17.00 to replace, right? Of course no contact info.
And once I witnessed a person hit a car, and get out an walk away, and was like... umm... you realize you hit that car right? And he got all confrontational, so I left a note on the car that got hit with his license plate number. When I cam back out the note had disappeared and my car was keyed. Luckily I'd ALSO written the plate number of both vehicles in my phone so I went ahead and called it into insurance third party, and the person they hit got the damage covered. Couldn't prove that they keying was them though, so I was on the hook for that. So much for the good samaritan I guess.

@MsLipGloss: I'm a pessimist, it's one of many things I need to work on
@Sapphiresun: That is just awful.
ETA: still no phone call but I didn't check if the car was still in the garage today!

@Vegmama: No, but I went to the garage today and the car is still in the same spot. The note is still there too,

I left a note when I backed into a car in a parking lot. They owner called and left a message on my phone saying not to worry about it and that he appreciated my honesty. It was three days later and I was worried every time the phone rang. I hope it gets resolved soon.

Update: The owner finally called me a week later. He turned out to be a very nice, understanding older man and was so so thankful that I left a note. I was so relieved, but had kind of forgotten about it by the time he called so I wasn't as nervous when I picked up the phone!

@Vegmama: By the way, I just saw your story about your accident a while back. That is so crappy, unfortunately I think that happens quite often! I'm surprised she had the guts to lie to her insurance company seeing as the cops had come and everything.

@TurtleDoves: Thanks, you're sweet The only sad part was that he told me he had taken so long to call me because he had been in the hospital for 2 weeks. I felt bad that that was what he had to come home to
