DH would maybe have been happy with one, definitely happy to stop at 2. I worked at convincing him on three for a good while. But the funny thing is, when I was ready to quit trying after an emotionally difficult loss and many bfns, he was the one who convinced me to try a bit longer. And here we are with three. He’d probably never get the snip so I guess that gave me time to work on it!

Following with interest - I’ve always said 2-3, DH has said 3-4. We have three and he flip flops saying he’d really like one more and he’s ok being done....I’m not sure he can convince me but we will see!

I wanted 3 and hubby wanted 2. We went back and forth for a while and compromised based on our frozen embryos (we agreed we would use them and *if* one worked, great, but if not, we wouldn't do any more IVF)

Both were on board with that - so we went back... and our first transfer worked, so I'm pregnant with #3 now. Hubby is thrilled now but firmly on the NO MORE NOW train... and so am I.

My husband is an only, I'm 1 of 3. He always wanted more than 1, but 4 at most if we can afford it. I wanted 3-4... This pregnancy and how long it took to conceive this one is starting to put me in camp no more after this.

We haven't decided though for sure since it's still early, and first trimester is making me miserable in general.

@crazydoglady: We both talked about 3. Due in about 3 weeks with number 2. I told DH I am done. He has agreed so far. He is not one to get snipped. thats fine! Birth control here I come!

This is a tough one for me to answer. I would have theoretically liked three (or four!) but it took us five years to have the first one, so that seemed like it was right off the table. I was pretty sure I wanted a second but not badly enough to go through fertility treatments again, my husband was debating whether he was happy with one, when I got surprise-pregnant with number two. By the time we had him I was 36 and we figured that we probably couldn't afford any more and live the way we wanted, so we decided that was enough. In a perfect world, though, I would have had more.

DH only wanted one and done. We just had our second a few weeks ago so I won that one. I am happy with two and he's now happy with two as well. We have both a boy and a girl. Sometimes I get sad thinking she is my last baby but so blessed to have two.

@catgirl: My son is almost 4 and daughter is 9 weeks! I personally like the age gap so far because my son has been helpful with his little sister and I can tend to her without worrying about him as he plays on his own, gets his own snacks etc. Best of luck to you! If it's just one then that's ok! We didn't think we were going to have a #2 it just happened.

I voted for we are still deciding.

I want 3 and he wants 2. We have a son, if our second is another boy I might be able to talk him into a third. So we'll see.

@catgirl: we had a similar experience in that it took quite awhile to get DH on board with #2. And then it took a year of TTC, plus fertility interventions and multiple losses to get a second healthy pregnancy. Anyways, I'm due in November with #2 and we will have slightly over a 6 year age gap. I would have liked more like 4 years, and the idea of starting over now is a little daunting, but mostly we're excited. And I can see how a big age gap will be great since DS can be helpful and knows how to play independently. Plus he really understands what's happening and is, usually, excited to be a big brother.

It took years (and a trip to Costa Rica) for me to convince DH on #3. I had always thought 2, but when we had a miscarriage between 1 and 2, I was sure I wanted 3. We went back and forth and had a small time frame, with a promise that if it didn’t happen in that time frame, we wouldn’t. Luckily, we got pregnant right away and I’m nursing our sweet baby girl right now. DH now agrees she was missing, but it took some serious convincing.

I am another one who won on an oops. I said either I get pregnant in February or we are done for good. Then I thought he was in agreement when we DTD because he didn't ask if we needed precautions like he usually does. Haha.

I wanted two. My husband would have been ok with one. Our second turned out to be twins so we have three.

I, initially, only wanted ONE .. My husband wanted THREE. My DD was a happy "oops" while I was on BCP and my DH was heading off to a month of training. She was a one-shot deal and meant to be. She was our miracle. It wasn't until DH returned from a deployment 6 years later, that #2 (DS) came about. He was our second surprise and a blessing, as we conceived him 2 weeks post DHs return home! We thought we were happy (and DONE) with our 2 but after my PPD lifted (11 mos postpartum), DH and I began to consider a #3. I am the oldest of 3 and DH is the youngest of 3 -- THREE just made sense. Ultimately, DH won in convincing me to want 3. 🤦‍♀️🙄🤣🤣 Currently, we are 41+ mos in the making of TTC for our 3rd.

I initially thought 0-2. Definitely no more than that. We lived in an area with super high cost of living, so we delayed pregnancy until we'd been married 10 years, when it was beginning to feel like "now or never".

After my first was born, I was so overcome with love, that I suddenly felt like I'd love to have four! We moved to a less expensive area and our business took off. Since we got pregnant easily, four seemed possible. My husband wasn't too sure, but said he'd do what I wanted.

My second ended up being an unplanned c-section (just like the first), and everything changed. The doctors were shocked at all the damage to my body from the first c-section. My abdomen was full of scar tissue, stretched every which way, and organs were fused together. They couldn't separate my bladder and uterus (that explained why I had so much difficulty peeing while pregnant), so they cut through both to remove my baby. Due to all this damage (plus the associated risks of accreta and difficult delivery), I was advised not to carry another pregnancy.

I was super bummed about this, but now I'm happy with our two kiddos. Since we are done with the baby stage earlier than planned, we have entered a year of travel and adventure, currently living in Asia. Traveling like this would be a lot harder (and more expensive) with more kids!
