@PrincessBaby: paraguard is supposed to make periods much heavier which is why people choose mirena.
i've heard so many horror stories abotu mirena on my local parenting listserv which has about 5000 people, and for there to be that many bad experiences in such a small population scares me!
i'm also hesitant to take permanent measures even though we are totally done.

I am on the pill right now, but I am seriously considering uterine ablation. It's marketed for the reduction of heavy periods, but in discussing it with my doctor, it is also effective permanent birth control.

I think I'm getting my tubes tied after this kiddo is born. I'm 10000000% sure I do not want 3 kids.

I'm getting an IUD at my 6 week apt. I'm leaning towards one and done, and like the option of long-term IUD.
@princessbaby: I don't want any hormonal birth control, but I've read paragard confirmed the copper IUD has traces of nickel, and I'm allergic. So, I'm going to get Skyla, which has slightly less hormones than the mirena. It lasts 3 years, which is about the time frame I would be willing to try for a second. If not, I'll get another one. I would prefer the copper one though!

I got the Mirena last week and my husband has a consultation today for his vasectomy
@MrsTiz: that's our plan after the Mirena is done, we are so done that even just a vasectomy isn't enough
@blackbird: yes my midwife was all about Mirena = no periods. I actually intended to get my tubes tied and she talked us into Mirena for the unintended benefits.

I am getting mirena. :). DH will probably get vasectomy in a year or so.

I will probably get on pill or IUD for few years until we are 100% sure, then DH will get snipped. I'm feeling more and more like I'm ready to be done at 2 so we'll see.

Mirena IUD for now. DH will get a vasectomy in a few years.
Mirena has had fantastic period-related side effects for me (I spot for a day and then am done!), so I may keep it even after the vasectomy.
(Doctor said she wouldn't do anything permanent until DS is 5 years old because a lot of 'one and done' change their mind before the 5 year mark)

My husband is going to get a vasectomy and I am so gleefully excited. I have done two pregnancies, taken all manner of fertility drugs, and I am done. I cannot wait for him to have to be the one to suffer the hassle and irritation just once.

I have had a mirena since November. I assume I'll go into menopause within the next couple years so I'm hoping I won't have to get another one after the 5 year expiration period.
My DH doesn't want to have a vasectomy - he's a wimp. After 2 c-sections + infertility junk and surgeries for hernia and gall bladder, I'm done with surgery. There is no way I'm going under the knife again.

@sarac: ha! I was happy about this too and dh spent 2 days going "wow, I thought this was going to hurt but I feel like nothing even happened!" must be nice love, must be nice. so much for empathy.

@Mrs. Lion: I so hope that's how my husband's goes. He's gotten a little scared after hearing some horror stories from friends. He's also a competitive biker, so I know he's worried about how long he might need to be off his bike afterwards.

@sarac: all kidding aside (obviously I don't actually wish pain on my husband!) it was super easy for him. he spent 2-3 days taking it easy and he was a little sore during that time but he was back to normal pretty fast.

@Mrs. Lion: same with my DH. I was shocked at how simple the whole thing was and how easy the recovery.

I'm on the pill, but cannot wait until DH gets a vasectomy. But we're years and years away from that and not 100% sure we are done.

DH had a vasectomy last year, just before my twins' second birthday. I had a really hard time with it...it was absolutely the smartest and most responsible choice for us, plus I knew in my heart that DH didn't want a third child. I'm giving myself the necessary time to accept what is already done, and what I already agreed to. That said, I would have totally done something less permanent! The what-ifs are a nasty bitch.

SO will get snipped once #3 is here (still baking). We just haven't decided on a concrete timeline.
