I backed up into a huge pickup truck today at the airport parking garage.
Luckily there was no damage to the truck.
I left a note with my number and took a pic of the car to show there was no damage.
Haven't gotten a call.. Yet!

I think you did the right thing. I backed into a truck years ago, totally messed up my hatch and put a crease in his tailgate. I waited for him and gave him my info. We settled personally rather than going through insurance, he claimed he got an estimate for $2000 ( the truck wasn't even worth that) we wrote him a check <--- so dumb!!! I use to see him driving around town, he never got it fixed.

@StbHisMrs: oh heck no!! You paid him out and he didn't get it fixed??? Guess he could have done the same if he filed for insurance, but still. Ugh!
In response to chopsuey's question, if there was no damage, I'd totally just leave. haha. If there was noticeable damage, I would have left my contact info.

If there was no damage, I would leave... I know it's not the right thing but too many people would take advantage of the situation, like @StbHisMrs said.

Nothing. Even if there was scratches or damage, I've yet to come across a car with a perfect condition bumper and couldn't even know if it was really caused by me. That's what bumpers are for, no one expects to park anywhere and not eventually get a little ding.

I think you did the right thing! I'm not positive that I would leave a note if there was no damage, but I HATE it when people ding my car and don't say anything!

If there's no damage, I would just leave. This is if I just basically tapped their car with mine.

I've given plenty of people a little love tap. If there was no damage I just left.

When I was in high school I backed into someone at the parking lot of a drive up food and icecream place. I got out, looked at both vehicles, saw no damage, and looked around for the owner. The parking lot was visible to pretty much everyone there. NO one came over and since there was no damage I left. But someone else took my plate # and call the cops. So after the fact I got a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident, even though there was no damage and I stopped and got out.
So I would probably do what you did.

Someone recently backed into me while I was parked and sitting in the car. He drove off, but before he could I took a photo of his car/license plate. He got a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident.

@StbHisMrs: I accidently backed into my neighbors car, it was dark out and I thought I did damage, left a note and the next day saw that the damage was from a side swipe and continued down the side of the car, where I had just bumped it straight on. Since I left a note, he asked me to pay him out cash. I was young and couldn't afford to, so we did the insurance thing, but I was PISSED. I should never have left a note. I probably will never again unless I'm 1000% sure that it was damage from me and only me.

Nothing pisses me off more when someone backs in to my car and doesn't leave a note. I keep my car spotless and never, ever has any damage on it (I get anything fixed, from the tiniest scrape), and yet I seem to frequently come out and find a scuff or scrape on my car. One time there was a black dent like 2 inches wide from a trailer hitch. That cost a ton to fix, what an asshole. I have never backed in to, or dinged someone's car but if I did, I'd certainly leave a note.
