Our friends just built a 1900 sq ft home and it took them about 4 months.

Hmm, if I remember correctly, I think we started in early April and closed at the very end of August....so five months.

I work for a home builder. It depends on the climate in your area (does it get very cold? Is it very rainy?), how long it takes to pull permits in your township, how many homes they have queued up to be built before yours, whether they stick frame vs truss build, etc.

10???? That seems like a long time. Ours will be done in 5. We were lucky to get in at just the right time before their business took off again, though.

There are many builders in our area that aren't closing until 2014. Friends of ours bought last August, and have a June 2014 closing! Our first house was 6 months, second house will be 6.5 months!

Like, 3-4 months. Not long at all, but it also wasn't a "custom" house, it was more of a "cookie-cutter" one (plans already existing, builder already had contractors for each step, etc.).
ETA: We're still waiting on our driveway and landscaping--winter hasn't been kind to us this year, but from ground break to us moving in it didn't take long at all!

We signed our papers in March, but they didn't break ground until May. We moved in Sept 1. So it was about 3-4mo for the build part. It took about 1-2mo for them to get the appropriate permits, etc. Sometimes the timeframe is based on how long it will take to get the appropriate city permits, and stuff.

I would think it depends on if your are building a stick built of a modular...I know modulars are much quicker to put up.

We built our home, it took about 8 months. It was hand framed, and a portion of that time was in the winter. We signed paperwork in December and moved into the house in August.
