Secular with Santa and a focus on giving/spirit of the season.

I do a celebration of Christ's birth. I also consider what that means (God is in everyone) and celebrate that- with the giving of gifts. Our main focus is being together.

We celebrate Christmas. We tell the story of the birth of Jesus, but as a story. We do santa but it's not really the focus. We do more about light and the solstice than either of those aspects.

LO is the only one celebrating Santa this year. :O
It's interesting how she is so determined to believe despite DH and I's lack of reinforcement. I've casted doubt many a time on this Santa character while DH has remained mum. We all believe in celebrating the birth of Jesus though!

My kids are in a church preschool so they do learn about Jesus and I try to explain why we have Christmas and that Santa was actually St. Nick. But we really don't focus on the religious aspect. My oldest came home from school with a project that looked like a birthday cake. When I asked about it he said it was because it was "some baby's birthday." That pretty much says it all!

@808love: my mom flat-out told us when we were little and we refused to believe her, so she played along until we figured it out. Kids (at least many of them) really want to believe.
I focus on the religious aspects/ kindness and giving for all of advent and up to Christmas Eve (when we attend services). Christmas morning is pretty much Santa and family.

@808love: Hahahhaha! That's what my kid is doing too! I haven't gone so far as to ask her if Santa is pretend or real though.

We do secular Christmas with Santa. We like to focus on giving and the magic of the holiday.

Secular without Santa? We exchange gifts and spend time together with family and friends.

@Grace: When I ask her, she says she has always believed. (She hasn't.) She also says she believes because why else are the cookies and milk gone in the morning. Ahhh, tender imaginative minds. I asked what her friends at school said about Santa and she said, Nothing. She told them she saw a video where a kid thought Santa was a doll. It was really a video about a kid who didn't believe in Elf on a shelf but they ignored her comment. LOL. I wondered if all parents tell their kids not to talk about it at school no matter what they believe as to not expose them to the 'other side.' I say this as a teacher too because I am surprised kids don't talk about Santa ever.

@808love: Yeah, I didn't grow up believing in Santa and I don't remember kids talking about it either. Although, apparently when I was very little, I blabbed to my cousins and my aunts and uncles were quite upset.

@Grace: My cousin told me Santa wasn't real but I didn't believe her. I thought he just didn't visit her because she was naughty and her parents had to make up for it by pretending to be Santa. I believed for a loooong time.

@808love: Hahahha! It's in the genes! You and your LO both liked keeping Santa around.
