Ha, another Bostonian. I love it here, lived in the city for about 10 years then moved north to the burbs near the ocean.

If money were no issue I would LOVE to live in San Francisco!!

If COL was not an issue, San Francisco, LA or San Diego.

Another Bostonian. I really like it here and don't want to move- but we are driving distance from my family, which is nice, and we have a good network of friends here. Winters can suck (last year) or really not be that bad, weather wise (this year). But commutes and housing can be long or expensive. We are in the city now, so live in a small condo. Will probably move to the burbs later this year and then we are looking at probably an hour commute for DH, and he works right downtown.

I would live in the DC area. Have lived in NYC but don't really want to move back. I'd rather stay north east.

I would totally move to San Fran if col wasn't an issue! We even considered it seriously since bil lives there with his family. But housing would again (nyc) price us out of living a normal comfortable life so we crossed it off the list. I do dream of living somewhere warm one day though, maybe Tampa or another city in Florida?

I'm not a fan of big cities so I really love where we live (Cincinnati, OH - It's a little city that really wants to be big) but would also enjoy Asheville, NC.

    Lots! Depending on several factors.

    Nashville, TN.
    New Orleans, LA.
    San Francisco, CA.
    Lots of cities in Texas.

Honestly, right where we are in Southern California! Between Santa Barbara and LA. We have amazing weather and a great community, enough of a small town that I see people I know when I'm out and about, but big enough that it's not sleepy/boring. Plus being relatively close to LA means easy access to entertainment/airports/etc. I would never choose to move away.

@hellobeeboston: That sounds super nice. I'm fairly obsessed with Crane Beach, cannot wait for the weather to warm up a bit...

Yeah I'd pretty much stay here...San Diego. Although I'd live in Del Mar which is super pricey! Traffic has gotten pretty bad, but people are still so much more chill than LA or the East Coast. I love it here (even though I got hailed on yesterday!).

D.C. if I'm thinking about both of our careers.
New Orleans if I was dreaming.

We've talked about moving to Charleston, SC when DH is done with his current job. I think I'd also love Austin, TX.

DH and I dream of retiring in the Pacific NW. We lived in Portland for a few years and moved back to Ohio to raise our kids close to my family....but we miss Portland so much!

Another Bostonian here and although I do love it here, if I had the choice to live anywhere, I'd have to say Honolulu or anywhere in Hawaii. If that was not allowed, maybe San Diego? But we want to be closer to family so the only other city we'd consider is Denver. Love it there too!
And I would strongly vote against San Francisco or Pacific Northwest. Gorgeous but after living there just over a year I couldn't handle the rain.

Pretty happy in Seattle! But we'd love Portland or San Francisco too.

And no, it doesn't rain all the time here!

@catlady: Oh, one of the jobs I was looking at was in Cambridge. I didn't think that getting out there would be any different from downtown. Hmmm...

@hb3233: How long was your commute from RI? I have a friend who moved to NH. He doesn't work in Boston anymore but has said that some people do commute that far.

@bluestriped bee: It can totally depend on where you need to go in Cambridge! Feel free to wall me if you want, I've lived and/or worked in Cambridge for most of my adult life.

@bluestriped bee: The train itself was about an hour, you can see all the commuter rail schedules here: http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/rail/

There's an Amtrak from PVD to Boston that's 35 minutes, but Amtrak is much more unreliable than commuter rail (it's coming from NY or DC and often late) and quite a lot more expensive (you can pay MBTA pre-tax, and a lot of employers will subsidize part of it).

I didn't mind because some of my work is flexible - I just need a laptop - and I could do that on the train. I was in Providence because DH's job was there, now that we both work in the Boston area we live here, but there are some people who choose to live there w/o a job there.

I would bike across to Cambridge from the train station. It was about ten minutes biking from Backbay. Or you can take the red line from South Station to Cambridge (there are four stops in Cambridge). It's not that long as it's just a few stops from South Station, the most annoying part about South Station is the massive crowds.

The Fitchburg line comes straight into Porter Square in Cambridge. There are some really, really nice suburbs along that line with some of the best schools in the country, though I assume the nicer ones are not cheap.

@Foodnerd81: I made the move from the city to the burbs about 18 months ago. The initial adjustment was hard but we're super happy with where we ended up and my commute isn't bad. Wall me if you ever want to chat about it
