If you failed the 1 hour glucose screening did you pass the 3 hour? Do you remember your number for the 1 hour?
ETA: I got 158 so pretty high. Last pregnancy I got 131 and they didn't make me do the 3 hour.

I failed the 1 hour so badly that I wasn't even sent for the 3 hour which was really frustrating to me. I'm a small person, only gained 25 pounds with LO and managed my GD with diet. My mom has Type II Diabetes, so I know that it runs in the family, but I was still pretty frustrated that they wouldn't even allow me to go for the 3 hour test.

I failed the one hour test twice (had to do it early on due to weight and at the normal time) with a 132 both times. The practice I went to had a cutoff of 130, whereas I've heard of others having a cutoff at 135 or 140. I passed the three hour test both times.

I failed my most recent 1 hour and I asked if I could skip the 3 hour. They said my A1C blood test was high at 5.7 or 5.8 so they just gave me my GD diagnosis without the 3 hr test.

I can't remember my 1 hour number, but I only failed very slightly. I passed the 3 hour with flying colors.

@2PeasinaPod: that's super frustrating!
@ChelseaRose: I got 158 so pretty high. Last time I got 131 and they said it was fine didn't make me take the 3 hour.

I failed the 3 hour, but not badly. I was able to manage it with diet super easily, and could eat whatever carbs I wanted as long as I ate some protein with it. I could literally have eaten straight sugar and been fine if I had protein.

This time around I failed both tests and was diagnosed with GD at 29 weeks but I was borderline when tested during my first pregnancy and now suspect that I actually developed GD towards the end.

I know it depends on clinics, I had a 139 and they passed me since our clinic cutoff is 140. I know that would have been failing in several different places!

I failed my 3-hr. in the second hour. My GD was managed through diet.

My # from 1 hr was so high they didn't even tell me to do the 3 hr one

I have failed the one hour with every pregnancy, but passed the 3 hour.

Failed the 1 hour with 144. Passed the 3 hour, actually I was hypoglycemic for the 3 hour. Go figure!

Failed my 1 hour...I don't remember the exact number, but it was in the 170s somewhere.
Passed the 3 hour.

*bump*
I passed the one hour at 18 weeks with flying colors. They had me take it again on Saturday at 28 weeks, and I failed with a 157. They asked me what I ate the day before, and I had a burger and a snickers bar because I was on the road or out of town. Now, I'm worried I really do have it!

@dc yoga bee: So, this is my highly unscientific opinion as a mom who had gestational diabetes, but the only time anything bothered my fasting glucose was if I had had a major carb overload the night before (like if I'd had toast or a bunch of fruit). If my breakfast was very carb heavy (like pancakes), then my numbers two hours later would be a little high. But I failed my 3-hr. in the second hour. My glucose was not coming down as fast as they would like it to.
Long story short: I don't think your burger and snickers yesterday affected your numbers today, unless you ate them at 3:00 this morning or something. Or if you are getting sick, your glucose numbers will be higher.

@avivoca: I know! I'm thinking I really do have it. And now I'm worried if the baby is getting too big or something. Don't they not let you go past 39 weeks if you have it?

@dc yoga bee: It really depends on your practice. I asked about it and was told that I would not need to be induced and that they would not do ultrasounds to check size unless there were other concerns. My GD was managed through diet. I delivered at 40w3d and was not induced. H was 7lbs. 10.8 oz. when she was born. I delivered with certified nurse midwives at a hospital with a low induction/c-section rate in my area.
The good news is that the diet isn't that bad, and I found that I could eat almost everything. My husband is diabetic, so I already knew a lot about what I could/couldn't eat, it was pretty much everything in moderation. I ended up gaining 35 pounds after it was all said and done, but I lost 8-10 pounds in the first month after being on the diet.

@avivoca: That is good to hear. I asked the nurse about what happens, and she said I would have more frequent monitoring and more growth ultrasounds. I don't know my practice's on going past 39 weeks or not. So far, I've gained 17lbs at 28 weeks, and the midwife was really happy with it. I guess I'll just wait and see!

@dc yoga bee: Yes, definitely ask you midwife about it! My midwives were pretty hands-off and it was really refreshing, especially with the rates of inductions/c-sections for GD patients at other hospitals in the area. My practice was pretty low-key in general though.

I had worked all night before the 1 hr (dumb scheduling on my part), passed the 3 hour with flying colors.

@dc yoga bee: some providers will treat diet-controlled GD just like a normal pregnancy. I know I'm in New Zealand but I'm pretty much self-managing my GD and just ring my diabetes nurse if I'm having issues!

I didn't pass both the 1 hour and 3 hours one. So now I'm consider of having gestational diabetes. Right now I hate the thought of monitoring my blood level by pricking myself 6 times each day.

I ended up passing mine, and they were really surprised at how low the numbers were. The midwife said the snickers bar the night before totally made me fail. In any future pregnancies, I will be sure to eat better the night before.
