I would. Id feel way too guilty if I didn't and feel the bad karma. It just wouldn't be worth it to me.

Sigh. Yes, I would return it if it were tracable. I don't think I'd report it as income though. What would you file that under? Tips? Besides, it's not income. It's money from the sky.

If I knew who it belonged to I would return it.

My coworker actually found someone's wallet outside a bank that had $5k in it once. There was a bank slip with it to he brought it into the bank and asked them if they could contact the owner and tell them their wallet was found. The bank refused to take the wallet or call the owner because it was against their policy. My coworker took the wallet back in disbelief and returned to the bank every day that week on his lunch hoping to find the owner. On the second day he found the owner walking around the parking lot trying to locate his wallet!

@chopsuey119: why not if it's in a brown bag? I ask because it's common for Asians to put large wads of cash in brown paper bags! hahha

P.S. If I knew without a doubt who it belonged to then yes.

I would not keep it. But if I had a hard time tracking down the owner, I would keep it in a heartbeat. And I wouldn't declare it.

$13k in equipment is quite different from $13k in untraceable cash!

That being said, I would definitely return it no matter what... $13k is way too big of a number to truly be untraceable.

yes that is a large sum! I would try to find the owner if possible, however I always wouldn't spend tons of time doing so! I would give it 30-60 days than stake the claim!
