... Did you talk to the pedi first or just do it? What age did you start them? What kind did you use?

I just did it. He was 11 months and we used the Gerber soothe colic drops. He had a tough time transitioning to table food (digestion-wise, not that he was refusing table food) and it seemed to help. We also took a step back with table food at the same time, so who knows what really helped him.

Our pedi suggested it by 4 months when C was getting ear infections to help with the effects of the antibiotics. We use Florastor.

I asked the pediatrician before giving LO probiotics at 4.5 months. He had a bad reaction to oral antibiotics and had a slight case of thrush. I wanted to get rid of it ASAP and suggested probiotics. The doctor was fine with him taking it given his age. She just warned us about drugs made in third world countries and would prefer it be made in Europe or America. I chose Raw probiotics for kids by Garden of Life. Package says that it is suitable for ages 3 months and up.

Our pediatrician suggested them; they were also something I was interested in as well so it worked out nicely!

@yin: I looked that one up - because of lo's sensitivities the pedi doesn't want him starting solids until 6 months. Do you think the prebiotics count?
@pelikila: that's one of the reasons I want to try them for him.
We asked the pedi way back around 1 month and she said no. But dh and I take them and since he was on iv antibiotics after he was born, I thought it would benefit his extremely gassy tummy. And he was just on amoxicillin for an ear infection.
@yoursilverlining: did you see an improvement in your lo's eczema?

@Ash: LO has a lot of sensitives too, and this was one of the few probiotics free of the common allergens. I avoid dairy, soy, gluten, eggs, and nuts. I'm also delaying the start of real solids until 6 months. He hasn't had a bad reaction to the probiotic, but he did have a horrible reaction to the antibiotic he took.

The doctor suggested it awhile who, but I knew the health benefits. My mom makes her own homemade kefir that we put in our smoothies.

Our pediatrician suggested it. Baby E had been nursing great then all of a sudden wouldn't latch. He realized it was gas related and suggested Bio Gaia drops. They worked amazing! Within a couple days she was back to normal.
(Hello all, I'm new here. Mom to a 1 year old baby girl, military wife, living in the Caribbean.)

@islandmama: we actually went to nutramigen because of lo's awful tummy issues but I'm still pumping so we can reintroduce bm this coming week per our pedi. I'm hoping to get his tummy in tip top shape so he can tolerate it.
Oh and WELCOME!

Our ped suggested it too. She gave me some sample drops, but I couldn't find drops at Whole Foods so I got the powder. We got it to help with constipation and it might?

@Mrs Green Grass: we don't have a whole foods... I don't know where to get it to make sure they're refrigerated either. Our chiropractor carries them in the fridge but I'm not sure of the brand.

Nope, we just did it. We give her BioGaia drops. We get them at the Costco pharmacy because they're way cheaper there. We started them at six months when she started solids and was a little constipated.

When they were super newborn, we did BioGaia drops, but they're a bit expensive. At 5 months when they had to be on antibiotics, our ped recommended Culturelle for Kids powder. Even though it says for 2 yrs and older, she said it's fine for them. We only give it when they're on antibiotics, though.

We were told by her GE to give them to her to help with her stomach issues. Started at 12 weeks I think?

I just did it, at about 2 weeks old (or maybe even younger?) because she was colicky. We did the Gerber Soothe drops. I told our pediatrician and he was kinda meh about it.

@daniellemybelle: exact same answer here.
And just so you know the BioGaia drops are the same as the Gerber drops!

Our pediatrician was the one who kept strongly suggesting them since she was born. This is one of the two he recommended, and we got it at WF. I don't give it everyday, but tried to mix it into some foods ever since she started solids.

Okay, this is timely as I just ordered some for LO without discussing it with the Pediatrician. She's been on three rounds of antibiotics at 16 months so that's why I wanted to do it.

@yin: @shopaholic: I bought this yesterday! Can't wait to start trying it! Thanks!

@Ash: Hope you like it! I'm never a real stickler for precise measurements, so I've noticed when I give a bit much, we have crazy poops! So, be warned. lol. But I figure it's getting all the bad stuff out!

@shopaholic: lol! They can't be much worse than they are already!
Thank you!
@coacheswife123: ugh, I wanted to but the pedi said no. It would've saved us a lot of heartache had we started early!

My IBCLC recommended giving LO probiotics when we both had thrush. I mixed the powder with breastmilk and used a syringe to give it to her.

@shopaholic: which other did your pedi recommend? These gave him bloody/mucousy poops.

My dr recommended Bio Gaia drops at her 1 month appt because of gas and colic issues. It's been just over a week and I haven't seen much difference
